  • Roof Racks... How do you guy's do it?

We'll I got a problem I haven't run into yet. I got a 2005 Expedition King Ranch Edition coming up this weekend. I'm stumped at this point when it comes to the roof rack. So how does anyone deal with this? I don't want to take it off (customers car), and I want to be able to do a complete polish.

    Your thoughts?

I deal with it very slowly and by hand. I'll tape off the rack edges and carefully get it done. Expect to spend copious amounts of time around a rack like this.

I've considered taking them off in the past and decided against it because of worries on the resealing around the mounting holes. If it ever leaked, I'd probably be held liable. In your case, having a Castano Leather interior myself (and also the President of the International King Ranch Ford Truck Owners Club), I'd really shy away from wanting to buy an interior. Further, I'll be very forth coming with the owner of the particular vehicle in that doing painted areas around roof racks is very difficult and time consuming. Let the owner know that this area will be addressed but with different techniques versus a rotary or PC (or other).

Thanks for the info.. Her Expedition is the same color as your truck is. I actually thought they only made King Ranch Editions on the F-Series Trucks. The enterior in the car is jaw-dropping..

She's actually paying me well for this job, but I was trying to pickup any tips that would help make it easier.

I hate roof rack on the huge SUV. It's PITA to work with. Get your 6 feet alum step ladder ready It's the roof total flat or it has those linings on them? Good luck and get ready to spend 8+ hrs on it.

Actually they do make a King Ranch Edition for the Expedition and I think that it is new for 2005 or 2006 but they hadn't made one in the past, only for the F-Series trucks.
