  • polishing/waxing in sunlight....

I have the g100 and want to know how i can polish and wax cars not having a garage to put the car in or anything to cover the sun..... Can i use #80 in direct sunlight as you only do about a 2ft. x 2ft section at a time and then just wipe the polish off?? If that is possible how about the wax portion of the job?? any ideas or info on that?

    Hi Josh,

Since you have a black car, you should really try to locate a shady place to work. Any and all products are going to try to dry up on you as you work on them if you're in direct sunlight.

The only way you could do this is early morning, late afternoon/evening, hopefully with a cloud cover.

Is it possible to borrow some shade from a nearby building or a friends garage?

      Thanks Mike,

I will have to see if I can get my car up close to my garage..... I used to wax my car in parking structures but that isn't really an option anymore now that I have the G100.... :] I will have to see if there is a friends garage or some shade somewhere near my house like up against my garage or something. Thanks again!

If you have a parking garage that you can use, then get a couple of long extension cords and fabricate up a light stand like the one you see here that Richard Lin made out of clutter he had in his garage.

        (Hey make me one Richard!)

Having a black vehicle and no shade, this is what I do. Wax/polish the hood and roof as early or late in the day as possible, when the sun is lowest in the sky. Then do all the other panels using the vehicle to supply it's own shade. Wax/polish the panels in the shade and then turn the vehicle around and do the same. Make sure when you turn around the vehicle you give enough time for the hot panels to cool off before working.
