  • 2 Questions

My 1st question is this, i want to use the Quik Wax or would the NXT Tech Wax (which ever would be better) mid week, can i layer it, say about 2 passes?

My 2nd question is this, does anyone have a problem with their polish cloths, mainly clogging when they use say a polish/wax? as i only use the 1 polish cloth per product. Should i be using more than the 1 polish cloth per product?

    Many thanks and most appriciated

nxt wax doesnt really layer, but you can put 2 coats on to make sure its even

i find one cloth just about gets around my small car...if yours is getting clogged with product, your probably puttin too much on..try to put as little on as possible

i usually go around and take off the worst , then grab another cloth and go around to check for any missed bits

      1. You certainly want to make sure your car is clean before applying them, I assume you mean applying after a wash or something.

I usualy use a Quick Wax or Nxt Booster Wax after washings. As Steve mentioned, you dont really get wax '2 -3 layers thick.' It is more for eveness, so the Spra yWaxes even things out and add a nice shine after washings.

      2. I can usualy get away with 1 cloth, but if you have a big car or apply to much product, you could find it clogging up a bit. Need a second cloth for a final wipedown sometimes.

          Hey,

You clay the paint first to remove the bonded contaminents. Follow that with ScratchX to remove the swirls. The ScratchX will remove any remaining products on the paint.

As for the pure polish, that is a personal call. I use it on every color as I believe it adds that little extra "pop" to the paint finish, especially dark colors. However, you could straight to the polymer/wax if you wish. It depends on how well the paint responded to the ScratchX. If you have really soft paint and there is still some marring remaining, you may need to step down to a milder product #9 Swirl Remover or even ColorX to further refine the finish. Then top with the polymer/wax.

Give the above a try and let us know!

Thanks tim, much appriciated, may i ask (since ive never used the clay product before) how much of the clay do i use (since ive read a few posts saying that they only use a little) and is there any posts about usinig the clay in here? And we dont have Colour X down here (i assume that produst is a polish?) we get Colour Boost Car Wax Not sure if it the same or not? When i 1st started usinig megs products i used the SoftWash Gel then the DC Paint Cleaner (to remove the previous products that i used to use) then the DC Wet-Look, ive managed to get the oxidiation down (well down from what it used to be AFTER i went and payed $10 for the drive through car wash and it stuffed my paint up ) i still have some dullness in some areas (mainly the left rear quater panel and the rear winig/spoiler) and also many swirl marks and still some roughness (i work in a heavy industrial site)

roaring lion, Colour boost is in my opinion exactley the same as colorX. It is a mild claner/polish/wax and i have had very good results with it especially with NXT over the top. Very good product, just look at the positive things they have to say on the forum re: ColorX

              Good luck

                Hey,

When it comes to claying, I like to break the clay bar into 3 pieces. That way, if you drop the piece, you have a spare. Once the clay has been dropped, do not use it again on the paint.

Clayiong is not that hard. After washing and drying the paint, spray some of the claying lube (Quik Detailer) on to the a small area, and work the clay back and forth over the area until it does not drag. You can actually feel the clay removing the contaminants! You may be able to hear the clay working as well. There is no claying thread yet. Mike started a thread but has not finished it yet. Hopefully soon!

It sounds like that Colour Boost Car Wax, according to dom0brien, is similar to ColorX. If so, use this after the ScratchX. Then top with NXT Tech Wax.

                Cheers!

Thanks for the advise Dom, im very new to the Meguiars products and still slightly confused, also thanks for clearing up the colourX and colour boost differances, i think i'll have to buy a bit at a time, its rather expensive and i cant afford to buy it al at once, the NXT is over $35 and the same with the quik clay and then start from scratch which i guess brings me to a question, from scratch would i

                  wash
                  DC Paint Cleaner
                  clay
                  scratch X
                  DC Wet-Look

or can i leave out the paint cleaner section?
How do you store the clay? as i dont want it to dry out and be wasted

And Dom while your here can i ask if you use a rotary buffer or do it but hand? if you use a rotary what brand do you use?

                  Many thanks and much appreciaited

My advise to you is this:
                    Wash
                    Clay
                    Colour Boost (cleaner/polish/wax)
top with NXT for great results
or polymer sealent ( if you already have it)
i recomend you buy NXT wax if you dont have it already.

I have just purchased a DA random orbital sander (ryobi) this together with w8006 megs pads will give me equivelent results to the PC, not availiable in Aus.

I also reccomend you use scratcx on spot scratches.

If you need any more help keep the questions coming

The Wet-look Polymer Sealant (i was told) is basicly a wax in its own right and i want somthing to add pop and punch to my colour (as its faded slightly and still has some oxidiation in parts), i looked at the NXT wax this arvo after work and it was kinda pricey. What do you mean by DA? Have you heard of a company called "lion" (i think thats what their called) their an aussie company that do orbital polishers
