  • Bonnet does not rotate?

    Evening all,

I was wondering why when I use the G-100 with a bonnet over a 7006 pad it does not turn, it seems to stay stationary and I end up doing it by hand ..........this for final polishing!

I have tried it on various speeds

    Any ideas?

Because the combined weight of the backing plate, pad, and bonnet are too much for the PC/G-100 to deal with. You only get one part of the *dual* action motion that random-orbital sanders/polishers are designed to deliver. It's sometimes referred to as "jiggling".

Not a big deal, don't worry about it. While it can be a little disconcerting, it'll work just fine. You don't really need true random orbital motions for removing product; no harm will be done as a result of what motion is used.

I *just* used my Ultimate Bonnets over a 7006 to remove some #16 the other day. Worked like a charm even though it switched from "d/a motions" to "jiggling" with the slightest pressure (as in, the unavoidable pressure needed to keep it in contact with the panels). FWIW I use speed 4 for this.

just a thought what speed were you using if possible bump up the speedand if im not mistaken dont use any pressure unless its the machine weight itself.....

i read older thread but im not sure if it makes a difference but i havent tried it but i will later...they used the 8006 pad since its more flexible since some cars have more curves then others..just a thought...

You can use different pads, but I always go back to the 7006. For one thing, it seems to grip the bonnet more securely (bad combos result in the pad spinning inside the bonnet). I find a *little* pressure is needed if only to conform the pad/bonnet to the contours of the vehicle. And within reason, pressure on a soft MF bonnet isn't gonna do anything harmful. But yeah, using a softer pad would mean less pressure being needed to effect good contact so I can see why an 8006 might be somebody's preference.

One thing I've found is that how well the bonnets work is related to how thick the residue you're removing is. [Sheesh was *that* a poorly constructed sentence ] If a LSP is tough to remove with this method, it usually means you put too much on.

Yeah Accumulator the first time I tried it there was too much product so that lesson was learned fast, I think just a little more trial and error is needed here to find something that I like........although I do like the firmness of the 7006

              Thanks

Heh heh, being an out-of-touch middle aged guy from the midwest, I have no idea what a True Player is- whether that's a compliment or an insult Either way, I'll take it as being good-natured.
