  • Rubber&VHT Compound stuck on Quarters

I have small particles (combination of VHT&Rubber) stuck on the quarters behind my rear tires. It will not come off with washing, clay, or paint cleaner. I'm guessing that when the rubber hit the paint it was very HOT from heating up the tires. Then it melted into the paint. Some of the spots even have thin fibers sticking out of the them.

    Thanks for any help.

I was able to get a picture of 1 of the spots on the truck.

      Hello,
Newby here. I have one of those bad habits as well. What I do to clean off the burnout boogers is to soak the area down real good with WD-40. Wait about 24 hours, and you can just peel it right off with an old credit card or something similar. Hope this helps. MJ

        "burnout boogers"

Great Name for it. I'll give the WD40 a try.

Nice times in the mustang. I finally got into the 7's last year (7.71). This winter I've added a little juice & a converter hoping to get mid to low 7's this year.

        Thanks,
        Mike

I know that VHT is blended with Methanol to spray on the track. Methanol will loosen the VHT but I honestly don't know what it will do to the paint. VHT is some sticky stuff.

The Guru Reports guy Steve mentioned using Meguiars Quik Wax on the areas behind the tires to make "wiping the boogers off" a whole lot easier.

I have a client that has a race vette and iam facede with the same problem everytime he races. The car is kept waxed but the rubber still sticks to the rear quater .Do you think spray that w-d before he races will help the boogies from stickin so much and will the w-d affect the paint.Check out behind the rear wheel .

Try some Cleartastic strips. I use these on my Mach 1 Mustang to keep rock from chipping the rear quarters, but it also makes wiping off rubber from TnT a breeze. I believe the make the sheets for Vettes & Mustangs.

Pre-Spraying the area is an interesting idea... esp if you did it right before and wiped down right after.

Also, mach9 mentioned about credit cards, you could also consider plastic razor blades. They are used to remove decals and whatnot, so might help as well.

PAM works pretty good if you spray it on before hand. Afterwards....I'd use some 3m adhesive remover then claybar the area. It's always worked for me lke that.
