  • Difference between class of products?

i always assumed using any meguiars product available through walmart and other retailers was more than enough, but it seems a good majority of users here stick strictly to the meguiars detailer brand (the products labelled w/ #'s). is there any particular reason it is so?

im curious that maybe going to the different range of products may produce better/more desireable results than strictly sticking to all the NXT/gold class products that i have.

specfically, i have the deep crystal paint cleaner, but it seems that a product like 82 or 83 might be better. what is the difference between products such as this? why is one recommended over the other?

I swapped over because it works out cheaper for me

For example a 1.8L bottle of NXT shampoo costs £13.00 and i think dilutes at 128:1,
Whereas a 3.78 bottle of Hyper wash costs £22.00 and dilutes 400:1.

Well, there could be many reasons. As Alex mentioned, the Detailer line comes in bulk sizes, which can be beneficial if you use a lot. However, they usualy need diluted, they dont come ready to use. The "Average Consumer" isnt going to want to mess around with dilution ratios , etc.

Along the same line, the Mirror Glaze line also comes in more econo-sizes.

The professional products are usualy formulated for use by rotary/DA, so if you work by machine, you should also be interested in these products.

And just to clear up one thing, all the products have a part number. But the Professional Mirror Glaze line is the one that uses the #'s for names. The Detailer Line uses names still.

As far as results, all of the products work well together, and you certainly can mix and match. The polishes and waxes can be applied by hand or machine with good results, so yo uare welcome to give it a try.

However, products like #80/#83 are cleaner polishes with abrasives to remove swirls. I think you will find that these abrasives work best with machines to remove swirls, etc. Working by hand, you would need something like ScratchX, or ColorX, which have abrasives designed to break down by hand.

Now, if you would just like a mild cleaner/polish in one step, and dont need to remove swirls, perhaps the mild cleaner/polishes like #9 or #82 would be of interest for you.
