  • Which Pad?

I'm going to try #83 on some tough water spots this weekend (white car).

Should I use a polishing pad on the DA?

I've never used a cutting pad. In my search on the forum, Mike indicates it is for use with a "bonnet"(?).

Can anyone clear that up or direct me to Pads 101?

    Hi Dave,

You want to use our W-8006 yellow foam polishing pad. Our cutting pad tends to be too aggressive and while it will remove defects in some cases it will leave the finish hazy. This has to do with the oscillating action of a dual action polisher. Interestingly enough, the same pad used on a rotary buffer will leave a clear and glossy finish. It all has to do with the time of action in play.

The polishing will work most of the time, just remember to shrink your work area down and move the polisher over the finish slowly with 10-15 pounds of downward pressure.

      Here's a list of product/pad combinations.

When using a bonnet the foam never touches the finish, only the bonnet does so the W-7006's aggressiveness isn't a problem. The extra stiffness of the W-7006 helps the bonnets work more effectively but you can use the W-8006 with bonnets too.

As always, thanks for the great info.

My cars and their owner are much happier because of this forum!
