How would one know if a car has been polished to the max that you could take out. For instance, if I use my ETG and read 4.6 mils., how would I know that if a person hasnt taken .3 or .5 mils already before I have gotten to it. I dont want to make someones clear to prematurely fail. I just got my ETG (85.00 bucks, what a steal) and just learning how to fully use it. Do you just have to make the call on what to do?

You could perhaps test a "hidden" area and compare the amount of paint in that area VS an area in the middle of a flat panel.
I suggest removing a taillight since when the car was sprayed at the factory (or a quality aftermarket painter), the light wasn't installed and it should have received as much coverage as an "open" section of the car.Don
