Hi, this is my first post here. I'm wondering if wet-sanding is harmful to your paint in any way (besides scratches). Thank you.

Well, any sanding is going to remove more paint than a paint cleaner would, assuming both are used properly, etc.
So you would want to be more carfeull about the amount of paint your are removing. As long as you are carfeull, and use the proper products, you can remove small scratches, etc, and bring it back to a perfect finish.

Wet sanding is a procedure used to typically remove orange peel and dirt in paint as well other surface imperfections.
Sanding is the easy part, it's the removing part that most people struggle with.
What are you working on?
Fresh paint or factory paint?

In most cases, if you know what you're doing, then wet-sanding isn't harmful to the paint. You will be removing paint and leaving behind sanding marks; as long as you know how to remove the sanding marks and restore the gloss you'll be okay.

Then you'll get into "how fresh?" because paint gets harder as it cures. Really fresh paint will cut easier than paint that's cured for a few weeks.
I'd see if the 3000 grit Unigrit paper works for you. Its scratches are pretty easy to polish out, I've even done it by hand.Practical Perfectionist

Mike, would I be removing more paint if I:
1) run rotary buffer with M85 and wool pad at 1500rpm
OR
2) perform 3 passes of wet-sanding?
I know the question is very subjective, but basically I need to know is it safer to perform wet-sanding then compounding to remove paint defect, or just by compounding to remove paint defect?

If you're referring to 3K sanding marks, I use much milder products than that. IMO you won't need anything harsher than the (new version of) #2. I use a different line of products for jobs like this, but you don't need anything really harsh for 3K (that's one of the big reasons why I use it).
