  • removing wax before rewaxing?

do you guys like to start with a clean paint surface free of wax before you rewax your vehicle? a few weeks ago, I did a wash, claybar, #80, and 2x nxt. It was my first time using a "cleaning" step after the wash. Before that, I used to just wash the truck then wax it. I like how the 80 seemed to remove whatever wax was left on my paint from previous frequent wax jobs. (I generally wax my truck once or twice a month.)

The only problem with #80 is that it requires quite a bit of elbow grease when using by hand.... its not a step i'd want to do every time I wax. However, I would like to "clean" the paint before waxing. Is there an easy way to do this? Maybe an easier "quick" product to use to clean before a wax? is there any benefit to removing old wax before recoating?

I was thinking of maybe using #6 cleaner wax with 2x nxt on top....

    any suggestions?

Well... it is a good idea to clean your paint prior to a wax, it will give you the best possible results and the wax will last longer. Set up a "plan", you could do something like, #80 + NXT every 6 months then in between just go for the NXT alone once a month as you do now.

A product I like to use for a dedicated is: Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner easy to use and fairly quick.

Well, while the professional products can be used by hand, I do believe they take some extra work to use by hand. If you are looking for a one step sort of prep product for use by hand, I love ColorX.

The only reason to remove al lwax every time is if you feel your surface is getting stuck on contaminants. You woudlnt want to spread a fresh coat of wax on, and work in some dirt that was stuck on, and cause swirls. If you feel your surface is quite clean, then you can just wax, no problem.

What I have tried to do is wax (ColorX + Nxt) every 4-6 weeks (in good weather), and spray wax when I wash in between. The spray waxes dont seem to work in dirt the way working in a whole coat of wax might.

      Hope that helps a little...

so if i apply a cleaner wax first, like color x or #6, then follow up with 2x nxt, would the coat of wax left by the cleaner wax/color x negate the shine and gloss properties of the nxt?

also, if i'll be applying nxt over color x or cleaner wax, should i let it set for awhile before i apply the nxt, or can i apply the nxt immediately after wiping off the cleaner wax/ color x?

No. NXT will build on the results created by ColorX

          Either/Or

Allowing the wax to dry will leave protection behind, removing before allow the ColorX to dry will reap you the benefits of it's cleaning action but will probably remove most of the wax.

It's really your choice. It dries pretty fast if it were me I would let the wax dry, and then wipe it off and move onto the NXT
