  • Which PC to buy?

Looking through the Porter Cable catalog, I came across two products that are similar, what I want, but I'm not sure which one is the one I really want to get, you know what I mean? Anyway...

There is your regular 7336 model, Variable-Speed Random-Orbit Sander (6")
-includes features and benefits as Model 97366 (Variable-Speed random-orbit Sander, 6" with dust collection) excluding dust collection and carrying case.

Then, I flipped over a few pages, and I saw this:
    7336SP Variable-Speed Random-Orbit Sander (6") with Polishing Pad
    -3.7Amp, AC only
    -Electronic variable-speed dial 2500-6000 OPM
    -Random, swirl-free sanding action
    -spiral/bevel gears
    -100% ball bearings
-standard equip: Sander, polishing pad #54745, sanding discs, wrench #48779, side handle, and operating manual.

I am pretty sure the 7336SP model is what I am supposed to get. I just want to detail some cars, that kind of thing. I was told that the pad that comes with the 7336SP model, is just **** and to toss it. The SP model seems like more of what I am aiming for. Is it?

I am still going to buy separate W0086 and W0096 pads as well, probably from over the phone. I went to Home Depot yesterday to try to get a price on both PC models, and to possibly place an order, but the PC company was closed, so the HD man will get back to me on monday with the price.

I'm just asking, which model do I want to get, to start out detailing. I want to get something good, that won't **** out on me. I want to do this right.

    Thanks,,

Flareside, are you not going to buy the online special? In the long run, I think you'll be dollars ahead buying from Meguiars.

I just went and looked it up im my Porter Cable catalog (Yes I have one lying around the house ) and the two models you mentioned are the EXACT same machine. The only difference is that the 7336SP comes with the crappy polishing pad.

hahaha, that's funny. If they are the exact same machine, then why doesn't the 7336 list the other specs as the 7336SP model? I wonder how the differ in price. How much does the machine weigh?

So even if I got the 7336, I could still use it for polishing, even though it doesn't say 'Polishing' on its name?

I checked out that thread, and it looks like Mike Phillips doesn't have anything set yet?

As I understand it, it's not set **YET**. The paperwork is being walked around for signatures and approvals and should be in the works in the VERY VERY near future. Thanks for your patience as these types of things take time to coordinate.

Why not wait for Mike's deal, i think you'll be glad you did. I'm sure the package's he's come up with are more cost effective than buying on your own.
I think we'll know very soon.

I appreciate the effots..... but I disagree. I went to Lowes & bought a7336SP (that was the only way they sold it) for 109.99(118.00w/tax) & got the W-DAV99 backing plate kitt with the 3 pads for 32.99. That came out to 150.95. I understand the lifetime waranty but if they were unreliable who would put a life time waranty on the thing. They are not manufactured any different other that the badging. & if I get 10 years out of it ill be content there might even be something better out by then. Plus i have the PC already no waiting for the package. But the dag gone backing plate is on backorder.

My dad is a complete moron. He went and bought the PC 7336SP model from Home Depot for $144 without asking if it was ok to buy!! He didn't even check what the regular 7336 was. So, if the 7336 was any less, and the two are practically the same machine, minus the crappy polishing pad, I just screwed myself over!

And now he's saying he's only gonna pay for a portion of it

I kinda wanted to wait to see what Mike had to offer, sigh. I only have so much money, and for heaven's sake!!

how can you go wrong with any of them? I would've bought the Meguiars just because of the lifetime warranty.

                          PC

I think if you buy the PC from the catalog you can buy better pads for it bri9801.

Hey, did you see the price of the PC in the (Meguiars) catalog?? Outrageous! The Dual Action Polisher for $231.95... That's an arm and a leg for me right there. I saw the PC 7336 model online for $109. Anything over $120 is just too much for me to pay.

Also... PC is a name brand, right? What would you call the polisher if you bought it from Meguiar's? Or are they all just 'PCs' regardless if they are Makita, etc.

Dunatic, I am sure they are all good, but I am not gonna spend a fortune for this thing,,,

I did, I actually got my PC somewhere else but bought my backing plate and assortment of pads directly from Meguairs.

PC= Porter Cable.....A makita would still be a Makita. Everybody refers to PC because they seem to have the market cornered in this area.

Meguiars G-100A is a Porter Cable sold under the Meguiars name with a lifetime warranty.
