  • Newbie with some cash!

    Hi there-

new to the forum and excited about cleaning up my 2001 VW Passat Wagon.

I am planning on buying/ordering all the necessary products to clean my car as well as possible. I am going to get the porter cable. I do need some help on picking the products.

what kind of pads do i need for the PC?
what's the basic product collection? will the gold class collection sold here suffice?
i do have some decent size scratches on my car due to parking situations. what's the best product for hiding them.

    thanks in advance!

    Hi Walter,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Now what movie did the name Walter Mitty come from?

Anyway, I'm stepping out to lunch, but I'm sure others will chime in with their suggestions...

As far as pads, you will want at least one pad for every product you use (never use more than one product on one pad) and ideally you want a couple extra lying around just in case. This kit is a good start since you get a backing plate, plus three pads

If you want to tackle swirls and scratches, you're going to need a cleaner/polish with some abrasives in it. A popular combination for the PC/G100 is Meguiars #80 and #83.

After that you'll need a good LSP, tire dressing, glass cleaner, and a few other products and you'll have the basics covered. Meguiar's has multiple products that do basically the same thing in different ways, so read up on their lineup and find out which you think will suit your needs best.

Mike, I believe you're referring to the short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which I believe was made into a movie.

Danny Kaye played the role of Walter Mitty in the film. I'm sure it's about the all time favorite among Danny Kaye fans (it's certainly one of mine).
