My 1960 Plymouth's 45 rpm RCA Record Player

If this works as planned, there should be an attached along with this post, of an image of the 45 RPM Record Player I have in my 1960 Plymouth Savoy. The Record Player was a Factory Authorized option for my Plymouth in 1960

    (Edit - Thanks Ben! -Mike)

By first glance I thought it was an air conditioning unit.

I don't remember them looking this fancy.

They used to come in a box that would sit on the transmission hump. Then it became a 4 track player. Then an 8 track and then it went big time with cassettes.

I just saw a touch screen in-dash unit yesterday that played DVD's, radio, satellite, etc. I just audio equipment.

78 records were the big bands. 45's were rock n' roll. 33 1/3 was farout man. lol

Wow, that really brings back some good old memories. I put one of those in my 1956 Buick Special back in 1966 when I was in high school.

The aftermarket units sat on the Transmission Hump. The Chrysler factory units mounted under the Dashboard, and had to be mated with the 'Hi-Way' 'Hi-Fi' Radio that acted as the 'Pre-Amp' for the 'Record Player.' Also, you won't find a schematic, or ANY reference to the aftermarket unit in the 'Factory shop Manual', but you will find the 'Factory Unit' detailed in the Manual

Yes, it works, and unless you drive over a roller coaster of a road, the unit's built in dampening keeps the needle from skipping.

You mean like when I showed the car to my Son's 2nd grade class some years ago, and when asked what they thought the Record was, one intrepid young man answered, a 'CD.'

A 45 is a 'Single Play' Record, with each side containing one song. The Record was played at 45 RPM, hence it's name, a 45. Now I'm feeling mighty old here, since I not only know what a 45 is, but I own quite a few of them that I bought brand new
