  • 2006 BMW 325i

Well, here are my first pictures I'm posting so hope this works out. Here's a car I did that turned out to be quite fun. for a 2006 this car's exterior was pretty bad. I'll let the pics do the talking.

I'm not kidding about this next pic. This was on both sides of the engine bay where water is suppose to drain. Looks like a birds nest.

    Here are the After:

    - Washed with NXT
    - Clayed
    - Started out with #83 & 8006 pad
    - Second pass with #80 & 8006 pad
    - #7 Show car glaze
    - Topped with #26
    - Wheels cleaned with Wheel brightener 4:1
    - Tires cleaned with NXT Tire Cleaner & dressed with All Season from the Detailer line

Exactly what I was thinking! How on earth do you do that to such a nice car, and a brand spanking new one at that?!

Thank you guys for the compliments. Yeah Mike, the owner was thrilled. Even though she's never really seen the engine bay but I did give her before & after pics.

The paint on this car was more on the softer side then hard. I did have to give a couple of #83 passes on certain areas such as the hood & trunk for some reason.

                  Beautiful transformation Well done!

How long did it take you to do the engine bay? What products did you use and what process did you follow? Did you use some sought of jetwash or steam gun?

                  Thanks

                    Thanks.
For this engine I used Meguiars Safe D greaser (4:1)
                    1. Rinsed off the engine with water usiing a pump spray.
                    2. Sprayed the Safe D Greaser generously all over the engine & let it sit for about 30 seconds before & brushed some areas
                    3. Rinsed using the pump spray again
                    4. Let it dry while I worked on the car
                    5. Sprayed Hyper Dressing let it sit for a while & wiped off excess.

                      Thanks for the reply...

                      Just a few questions...
                      1. Can I use APC instead of the Safe Degreaser? Are there any added benefits to Safe Degreaser over APC?
                      2. Did you cover anything in the engine bay?
                      3. Is there anything I've gotta be careful with as I too have a 2006 BMW 325i?

                      Thanks again.

To be honest with you I'm not sure how much of a difference there is between using an APC vs. the Safe D greaser. I know some products can cause the aluminum or metals to turn white. I would imagine the degreaser will obviously cut through grease much better. I also have the Super Degreaser on hand. It's always better to start with the least aggressive product to ensure no damage is done (IMO). If I see one product is not working easily I step up to a more aggressive or dilute the product less to see if that works better.

I didn't cover anything in the engine. I've used a pressure washer in the past & found I don't have too much control as to what I'm spraying. I've used a straight water hose which I had more control. Lately I've been using a pump sprayer in which you can find at a Home Center like Home Depot or Lowes. With this I am able to get into tight spots & safely remove the grease & grime from the engine bay with full control.

As far as being careful just make sure not to spray directly into the Alternator or any other electrical components. With the pump spray I did spray completely over everything. Lightly on the exposed electrical. If you see that water does puddle up anywhere near electrical wires you can get a leaf blower to air away accumulated water.

Hope I wasn't too long winded & this has answered your question.
