  • Detailed: Classic 33 Yr Old Alfa Romeo Spider

Spent a week detailing a customer's Alfa Romeo Spider with it's original 33 year old paint job. Surface prep alone took about 3 days, polishing chrome bits, rims and engine detailing another 2 days, leather interiors, dash and convertible top took 2 more days. We even polished the boot's interior but forgot to take pictures of it!
Paintwork was layered with 2 layers of NXT and 3 layers of Gold Class. I've posted a couple of photos but have kept the file sizes relatively small @ 50 odd kb's. Enjoy!

    Awesome work macdude!

Your results have given this old Alfa Romeo a finish that looks like it was just driven out of the paint booth, clear, glossy, rich and reflective with a deep, wet shine!

Did you happen to snag a before picture?

      The car looks magnificent!

A question about layering: Are the results different from when you only do one or two coats?

        Hey Mike,

Thx for the encouraging comments! Unfortunately I didn't take any before pictures of the Spider. But it was severely oxidized as you can expect from it's age. Watermarks and surface imperfections we're aplenty throughout the paintwork.
One of these days I'd have to start making a mental note to take "before pictures" of the cars undergoing detailing.

        Newly Car Crazy,

Yes there is. But proper curing times between layers are very important too. This Spider had full 24 hours curing time for each layer of wax done. But it's not always feasible to cure it for that long. A detailer would usually have to juggle between perfection and practicality for each individual car.

That machine looks no where near 33 y/o. It looks better than many brand new cars still on the showroom floor.

Meguiar's recommends two thin coats for uniform coverage and appearance quality. Three if you're car crazy and enjoy working on your car. After that, it's going to be pretty hard to see any improvement over what the first couple applications achieved.

Of course, looking at macdude's results, and it might make some people want to follow his regimen!
