    Question Clay Smearing.

    Hello
I have the Quik Clay system I have gotten in Feb 04 but got a chance to use it now due to good weather. Problem I am haveing is it Smears real bad even with alot of lube. Any way to stop it from smearing. My 04 truck is Bright Red and I had to use Medalion Paint cleaner to take smears out.

    Thanks
    Al

Same problem. I made sure to kneed the clay more often. Seemed to work no probs since. That was my first attempt with clay.

I did not even do a 1/4 of the hood. It smeared right as soon as I started. I was using lot of lube also kneeded it a bit before I started..

    Hi Al,

    Welcome to Meguiar’s Online!

You know, that is one of the problems the new clay is supposed to solve. I have been using the new clay bar in the Training Garage every weekend on multiple different cars without a bad smearing problem.

The only time I have had problems is when I have been low on lubricant, or sometimes at the end of a throw, i.e. at the end of my application motion when for a brief moment the clay has stopped on the surface while my hand changes directions. But these instances haven't been what I would call a problem and a wipe with a microfiber quickly removes any smudging.

I have to wonder if you don't actually have the new clay bar?

two things.. 1. was the car's paint warm? 2. After seeing a post the older quick clay was prone to some similar problems (too stickey and smears easy). To tell if you have the "new and improved" clay (which addressed the old probs) the plastic wrapper will have Meguiar's printed on it, is what I think I read. Hope this helps..

The clay I have is actually the older clay. I have been reading some posts and read one of yours saying the newer clay had Mequiar's printed on the clear wrapper..Well mine is plain clear wrapper...no printing on it.

The truck was cool surface was not hot. Not here in New England yet..lol...I tried this..I got a clay magic kit to try..worked no problem..tried the Meg's the same way... Smeared under lots of lube..so I just put it in a zip lok bag and put it in my box of supplies.

    Thanks

I like the Clay Magic (blue) bar. It works very well and does not require as much lube as the Meguiars. It is also very easy to find locally.

If you have a PBE nearby, see if they have the Meguairs Overspray Clay. It works very well too. It may be more aggressive and better for severe contaminants. The Overspray Clay had never smeared for me unless it it very cold.
