  • Remove Paint Overspray under the Hood and How to Polish Alum

Just got a good used 85 Vette. The car has been recently repainted and looks good, but their is a lot of color overspray under the hood and engine.Painter probably didn't have a down draft booth.

How is the best way to get this stuff off and clean the alum engine parts?

Also, the original alum wheels are good but very dull. How can I bring these back to life?

    Thanks

    Hi dbaker,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

To remove overspray off of anything that is smooth and non-porous you could try using a piece of detailing clay.

    Quik Clay System

For other areas in the engine compartment that can be a touch nut to crack as you need to find something that will remove the overspray paint but won't affect the surface/material the paint is stuck onto.

You might try a safe product like Goo-Gone, or wiping with a solvent like Stoddard Solvent, or perhaps Mineral Spirits. Another idea that might work is a non-Acetone finger nail polish remover.

My wife Lynn was able to remove Marhyde paint off the leather seats of this Corvette using a non-acetone finger nail polish remover.

    Here's the after,

And Here's a shot of the interior after she detailed it,

Always test a product in a small inconspicuous area first.

    Best of luck...
