Re: Harley Davidson Black Engine color restoration...
Hi iMak,
There are specific HD engine cleaner products on the market which are a quick spray & wipe application. Although I have not had the chance to try this, it appears these products will provide more gloss to the black powdercoat, if that is what you are looking for.
For cleaning:
I was actually helping my friends work on their HD's this past Saturday. I found that agitation with a nylon brush was the key performance factor for good results no matter what chemical was used. They were performing a waterless wash on the bikes with our Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax was also used on the black wrinkle case & engine areas along with a brush, and worked great. The areas which were brushed were wiped with a microfiber towel after to remove remaining residue.
A regular, properly diluted car wash soap, along with agitation, will likely work well also. A mild all purpose cleaner or degreaser could potentially be used, but also could easily stain areas around the engine which are not coated.
