  • Looking for replacement recommendations for Meguiars Mirror Glaze #80

Looking for recommendations for a polish to replace my use of Meguiars #80. I've been using #80 for many years but am looking to change to something a bit easier to use. I am in my later 50s and find it more difficult to follow my detailing routine.

Typically, I wash our vehicles with Dawn to remove the old wax, polish with #80 then finish up with NXT 2. Please recommend a polish (not a glaze) to replace my #80. I realize that #80 is rated a 4/10 on the Meguiars "abrasion" scale. Was looking for something just a little bit more aggressive.

BTW, my wifes 10 year old car still looks almost brand new (I believe) due to my 2X per year routine!

    Thank you ...

    Hi dud,

Happy to hear your wife's 10 year old car still looks like new from your efforts! Post a picture if you would like, we would be happy to see.

Meguiar's M205 Ultra Finishing Polish would be the perfect fit for what you are looking for. Although it is also rated at 4 on our cut scale, it will be slightly more aggressive than #M80 Speed Glaze. We would imagine you will like the smooth buffing feel & you should notice an easier wipe off as well.

like you I use to have a 2x/year plan of attack to correct the car and bring back the luster/shine of the paint. Hand waxing every 4-12 weeks depending on if I was using GC paste wax or NXT synthetic was becoming tedious and the time was becoming increasingly more difficult to come by. I have since adopted a rinseless wash system (meguiars modified gary dean style) with presoaked MF towels and finishing with a spray of D156 (synthetic spray wax) as a drying aide/LSP wax. With the new adopted style (which was initiated due to water restrictions last summer in southern CA), I haven't needed to clay, polish, or compound my car.

I do find enjoyment out of detailing and the ability to take a step back and look at what was accomplished though. Because of this, I have done my neighbor's cars and extended family's cars recently.

Mentally, I guess the "need" to do a hand wax/polish 3-4x/year was harder to over come then the 1 time effort of correction and the purchase of new products like spray waxes.

With that said, options for another polish:
I like M205. It is also classified as a "4" for cut but it can cut more with a stiffer pad or something like a terry cloth towel/MF towel.

Thank you Nick. Thank you Twisty. Here in Florida it is not much fun detailing from June through mid-October. Soon it will be tolerable outside to detail. I was sad to find that my quart of M80 (probably 8-10 years old) had gone bad ... as in turned into a watery mess. It was no longer usable. I will procure a bottle of M205 and give it a shot. I hope that it is as friendly/removable as the M80 was. That is one thing I enjoy about using NXT 2 ... it dries fast and is VERY easy to remove.

        Thanks again ...
