Ultimate Compound Doesn't Come Off My Clear Coat

First off, I detail my car by hand twice a year using #9 Swirl Remover and then I follow up with #26 Yellow Wax. Been doing this on my car for 30 years. I had a moderate scratch I wanted to get rid of. I used the #2 Cleaner on the scratch. It removed the scratch but I could not get all the #2 off the paint. It left a very bright white haze behind on my black clear coat car. So I followed up with #9 and it got worse. I decided since these products were about 3 years old I should buy new. After looking at the Meguiar's recommendations for my car I went with the Ultimate Compound. I applied it in a circular motion with a damp sponge. I let it set for 5 minutes in the garage. This stuff will not come off hardly at all. It's still on the car. I'm using one of the Meguiar's yellow microfiber towels to try and rub it out. The only way I can get it off is rub my finger back and forth with heavy pressure on the clear coat for about five seconds and it leaves a nice shiny spot. So that gives me hope it will come off some how. Now how do I go about getting it off? I refuse to drive the car because I don't know what the sun will do to that area.

Never had this happen before. Not sure what went wrong.

Cleaners and polishes should not be left to dry. They should be removed while wet. You can reapply UC to the same spot and immediately wipe off. It should come off at that point. You could also wet the compound down well and remove.

I just wanted to reply back here that I have resolved this problem. I hate when you find a problem just like yours on a forum and the original poster never comes back to post what the resolution was.

I tried re-applying the UC and wiping it off wet and it made no difference. It continues to leave a bright white haze. I tried again, this time using a very damp microfiber cloth to dilute the product. No difference. I then decided to use the #26 Yellow Wax like a polish. I put some on a clean microfiber towel and rubbed it on the paint with moderate pressure like it was a polish or cleaner. I did this for about 1 minute and then let it sit for 5 minutes to dry. Grabbed another clean microfiber towel and buffed it off. It looks amazing again. No sign of the UC anywhere. Shines like a mirror.

Happy to hear you resolved the issue. I just wanted to clarify, it sounds as though you have two separate issues. 1, Ultimate Compound drying on the paint, being difficult to remove, because it has dried. 2, Ultimate Compound leaving a "haze" behind. For example on a black car, after using the compound, this would appear to have a sort of gray appearance, or possibly even a little micro marring. Would you agree these are the two issues?

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I want to provide some insight if these are the issues you are experiencing.

For applying Ultimate Compound by hand, we typically prefer using a clean soft foam wax applicator pad to apply & a microfiber towel to remove. It is best to apply to a clean and cool surface in the shade, to about a 1 square foot or so area at a time. Dispense product onto applicator, and apply in circular overlapping motions, keeping your hand flat, using moderate pressure. The product should break down to a light, wet, translucent film. This is when it is most easiest to wipe off, that is when it is a light wet translucent film. You should not have to use water and we also would not recommend this. If the product residue ever does dry on the paint, it can generally be easily removed by applying a little more wet product, or using a Quik Detailer spray.

If after Ultimate Compound is applied there is a slight haze or micro marring left behind, it is best to use a cleaner/polish product. An example would be our Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze. Cleaner/Polishes like our Ultimate Polish are applied in a similar manner by hand as Ultimate Compound, typically just with not as much pressure used. The mild cleaning ability of the cleaner/polish will work to refine the paint, remove any haze & micro marring.

While you have found that #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax has resolved the issue, it is possible that it is just temporarily hiding the haze. If you find that it did indeed hide the haze after it wears down, you can simply apply a cleaner/polish product like stated above, to permanently fix the hazy finish left behind, and then follow again with a coat of wax.
