  • Keeping my new vehicle looking good

I recently purchased an 2014 Mustang GT it's sterling gray with black stripes and gloss black wheels wondering what's the best products to use to keep it looking as good as it does now? I have an DA polisher already I like Meguiar's ultimate paste wax have some collinite 915 another detailer gave me awhile back. Any suggestions on over the counter products I can buy to keep it looking good? I can post pics if wanted thanks in advance everyone who helps with comments/suggestions!

The ultimate trio is a good place to start. You already have ultimate wax. Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish are good to have. Seeing as you already have a DA, you could try a test spot with ultimate polish to remove light to moderate defects (swirls, etc.) and add gloss. Then seal the paint with ultimate wax. If you need more correction you can step up to ultimate compound.

M205 is another good polish. It has a little more correction than Ultimate Polish.

If it looks good then you can wax it.

Yup, looks real nice. I have both ultimate paste wax and collinite 915, both are great waxes. Collinite to me, does have a bit more depth than Ultimate wax, but ultimate paste wax is
easier to use. Try both, see which wax gives you the shine you're after. If it's Ultimate Paste, then just maintain it with ultimate quik detailer (light dust removal, also has hydrophobic polymers) and ultimate quik wax (after every car wash).

Re: Keeping my new vehicle looking good

I am too interested in this topic. I have just finished most of my car with a full detail, clay > Ultimate Compound > Ultimate Polish > Ultimate Liquid Wax.

Now my Z looks much better than before this, I just want to maintain it as much as possible. So going by what ffboy said, after every wash every week I would use ultimate quick wax? Would tha be all?

Wash > Dry > Ultimate quick wax?

In my experience, yes, with regular use (or as needed) you'll be surprised how shiny and slick your car's paint will be, especially if done real carefully. If you wash the car weekly, you can use Ultimate QUik Detailer in between carwashes, and if it's done regularly as in removing the dust with Ultimate Quik Detailer, you might not even need to car wash. You can also follow up Ultimate Quik Detailer with Ultimate Quik wax. You might just find yourself washing your car less and less frequently.

Hmm interesting, thanks. Now with these Ultimate Quik Detailer and or Ultimate Quik wax, do they diminsh the paint or clear coat over time if used frequently like that, weekly or so?

No they will not. These two products actually leave protection on the surface. UQW leaves the longer lasting more durable protection between the two.

Re: Keeping my new vehicle looking good

Here are some thoughts on maintenance. By definition, we refer to maintenance as:

The frequent removal or fresh contaminants before they have a chance to bond or etch to the paint finish

You may have also heard us say in the past:
Frequent Car Care is Easy Car Care

Once the vehicle is polished & waxed to the individuals satisfaction, below are some maintenance recommendations to keep in mind.

Washing - Meguiar's recommends washing weekly. Remember to use a premium automotive specific car wash solution, clean quality accessories, and good technique. Like others have mentioned, if you use Quik Detailer frequently enough, you may not even have to wash ever week, because you will be keeping the car completely clean with the Quik Detailer.

Quik Detailers aka spray detailer aka detail sprays - Meguiar's has a variety of "Quik Detail" Sprays. They are all primarily for safe, light dust, fingerprint, or any light contaminant removal. They allow the user to safely remove these contaminants, in a easy spray on/wipe off type application. Remember to work on a cool surface ideally in the shade, and use a premium microfiber towel. Each one of Meguiar's "Quik Detail" Sprays each have their own unique characteristics as well. For example, Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer will provide added gloss, a super slick application, and added water beading from it's included hydrophobic polymers. Quik Detail sprays are often used every day, or every other day, to maintain a just washed, clean vehicle. Any level of contaminants beyond light dust, we would recommend performing a traditional two bucket wash, or a waterless wash (more on waterless washing later).

Quik Waxes aka spray waxes - Meguiar's has a variety of "Quik Wax" Sprays. They are primarily used to boost the life of your original wax coating, and in fact, they will actually significantly increase the life of your original wax coating when used regularly. Our Quik Waxes should be used on a clean surface. Our Quik Waxes are also recommended to be used with a high quality microfiber towel, such as our X2020 Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel. Quik Waxes are typically used after washing, but can also be used after the use of a quik detail spray, or a waterless wash. The only requirement is that the surface is clean. Currently, all of Meguiar's Quik Waxes will not dry white on non painted exterior trim. Some users use spray waxes weekly after every wash, some users every other week after ever other wash, it's preference.

Alternatives to traditional washing aka "waterless" or "rinseless" - Another option to keep in mind is the use of a waterless wash, like our G3626 Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. These are great for a variety of situations, including when your vehicle is too dirty for a quik detail spray, but maybe not all that dirty that you need to do a tradtional wash. The combination of the design of the product, high quality microfiber towels, and good technique, all working together, a user can clean a moderately dirty vehicle with a hose and a bucket.

                    Hope this helps.
