  • How can I take care of these problematic areas?

    Hey everyone,

I am about to attempt my first detail session and wanted to ask some questions before I get started.

    1) I see bunch of tiny swirl/scratches along the black plastic trim, how can I tackle this part?

    2) How can I remove these lint/fuzz/hair along the suede or alcantara headliner? (BMW Interior)

    3) Do you guys usually detail this part? If yes, how can I clean and protect this part?

thank you so much and I can't wait to start!

      hslayer, Welcome to MOL.

It is likely that the url for the images you pasted are not actually to images. It looks like they may be pages . MOL is generated from vBulletin software. It normally requires that images be common image files that end in extensions like .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .tiff, .png.

Here are two examples of what your post used for images.
      http://imgur.com/4Zrdms2
      http://imgur.com/qTMOlYx

Note that neither url ends in the image extensions above.

I checked and as I suspected the links are to full pages written in xhtml.

Example, one of your images files is named
      //i.imgur.com/qTMOlYx.jpg

You can do it anyway you find that works for you.
However, the best way for forums is to use a local image. That way if you remove an image from an image provider or your provider wants more $,and it becomes unavailable, the image breaks in the forum.
If you use the Forum's local Gallery, your image still appears.

MOL provides you with a Gallery for your use on this site.

Here is a link to a tutorial.

            1) If you are referring to the exterior glossy & shiny black trim usually located in-between the side windows, this area on cars can be challenging to maintain. The surface is so delicate to washing, wiping down, etc. It can swirl & scratch extremely easily. In general, the approach to remove swirls & scratches is similar to that when working on the rest of the cars paint but, typically we recommend to try to not be as aggressive. We usually recommend starting with a mild cleaner/polish product like our Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze or M205 Ultra Finishing Polish.

            2) I would recommend trying to purchase a suede specific brush. You can then gently brush the lint into a bigger group & vaccuum up. This is what I typically will do for pet hair. A pet hair brush may work for this also. Just test a small section with the brush you end up using to make sure you are not damaging the fibers.

            3) Referring just to the area you have circled, which appears to be a rubber & black plastic component, our M40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner would be great for this surface. Regarding door jams in general, I usually will wipe down with a waterless wash like our Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax after washing. More thoroughly cleaning with a diluted car wash solution or even a product like our D101 All Purpose Cleaner can be performed, but it would be recommended to not remove the grease from any components which have grease, like seen in the picture.

            Hope this helps!
