  • What is the point of M39 Mirror Glaze Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner?

I've used Meguiar's M40 Mirror Glaze Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner & Conditioner for a good while, great product but what is the need for M39 Mirror Glaze Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner?

What advantages does M39 offer over cleaning off contamination when necessary with a mild degreaser and then using M40 on trim/vinyl interior etc, I have been doing that up till now and I always get a flawless finish?

There must be some special usage/nice situation where M39 is the clearly the best option but I just can't see where that would be and why.

    Welcome to MOL.

The advantage of M39 is that it is a dedicated cleaner. It does one thing and that is clean in preparation for something like M40. M40 is a cleaner/conditioner which does both things. An all in one type product like this may not have the power to deep clean the surface it is being applied to . If the surface is maintained on a regular basis then a deep cleaning with a dedicated cleaner is optional.

Thanks The Guz, maybe let me rephrase that, what is the advantage of using M39 over a degreaser if I will be using a conditioner after either option?

I guess the next question is what are you trying to achieve?

My advice would be to start with the least aggressive cleaner. That means M39 over a degreaser.

A basic degreaser is not particularly aggressive and anything less aggressive than degreaser is not going to be very helpful cleaning say external trim that can get all kinds of road contamination?
I use product to make my life easier not harder, that's why I started this thread to see if there was any time saving benefits to using M39.

I will let Nick chime in to give you the answer you are searching for.

Not to come off as a punk but if M40 is working for you, then continue using it. It is often said find something you like and use it often.

M39 and D101 APC do a fine job getting items such as trim cleaner that a product that does both clean and condition. The only thing I can add is to give M39 a try and see if it fits into your regiment.

You may also want to use the search feature to see if others have asked a similar question.

M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner is unique since it is actually designed specifically for vinyl, rubber, and colored plastics. It is an aggressive dedicated cleaner, but because it is designed for these specific surfaces, it can have performance & safety advantages compared to general APC's (All Purpose Cleaners) or degreasers. All Purpose Cleaners or De-greasers are typically more general use, for multiple surfaces & materials. An example of a potential performance advantage would be that it just does a better job at deep cleaning a particular surface. An example of a safety advantage would be on a classic car, with an older vinyl convertible top.

M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner is also in our Professional Mirror Glaze Line (which is more widely available than our Professional Detailer Line), is a convenient RTU (Ready to Use) 16 oz size, and also has a foaming sprayer. For example, we also produce our D101 All Purpose Cleaner which can be used on similar surfaces than M39. D101 All Purpose Cleaner is a concentrate, in large gallon or 5 gallon sizes. D101 All Purpose Cleaner is a great option for high volume environments because it is so economical, and because it can be used on a wide variety of surfaces. There are many situations where the user does not prefer a large size concentrate, with secondary bottles, and having to mix with water, etc., where M3916 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner may be preferred.

M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner is actually one of my favorite products. I like to use it for a variety of applications typically along with a soft to medium bristled brush, including cleaning exterior rubber or non-painted colored plastic trim, cleaning various interior surfaces like center consoles, dashboards, or door panels. It also works well for cleaning tire sidewalls.

              Hope this helps.

Re: What is the point of M39 Mirror Glaze Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner?

I can vouch for it being very effective at cleaning tire sidewalls, especially if/when you don't want to drag out the hose and get the floor wet. I've seen Nick clean the tires with either M39 or M40 just about everytime I've been to TNOG.

Those shiny cars you see in the pics aren't done until Nick puts the finishing touch on them, and that means making sure the tires look good to match the paint. M39 spray and wipe clean. I think I can speak for him and say he really loves that stuff!

IMO 1 of the benefits of M39 is that it's strong enough to clean like a degreaser, but it checks all the boxes in terms of doing it safely on all the intended surfaces. Meaning it won't turn certain rubber/plastics chalky white like Degreaser can sometimes do on certain areas.

I'll have to try M39 on my tires! Never know what to use when I wash via a rinseless or waterless wash.
