Re: What type of paint do I have?

Trying again....i promise never to use red shop towels again.

Lacquer paint sounds right so I'll go with that.

I run the car when it's not raining and whenever I can. It is in no way a daily driver and is garaged and covered when not in use. My real problem with the paint is on the hood and trunk. Sides look new.

So I have Meguiers mirror glaze #1 and Meguiers ultimate compound. I think the mirror glaze is too harsh so I will try the ultimate compound. Then the Meguiers ultimate polish. Any suggestions on wax? I will figure out using my DA or not. Maybe I will use the DA on the polish step. I am too afraid on the compound step.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

All this conversation about the paint and nothing about the car!? I'm curious to know what it is. And do you know anything about the guy who painted it? Was it a national chain like Maaco or a local body shop? Was there significant body work, repair, done before the repaint? It's not likely that you run into problems polishing with the Meguiar's products, unless you pull out an old rotary polisher from the shelf, but if it was a less than stellar repaint you would want to be less aggressive. If you don't know anything about the quality of the repaint it's best to start with the Ultimate Polish.

Finish with Ultimate Wax or Meguiar's #26, your preference at this point.

I think this is a 1967 Buick Skylark GS/400 Convertible.

We haven't seen an image of this actual car yet. They were stylish cars, and with the 400, they performed well. Not quite 67 GTO, yet very respectably.

When doing restoration work, it is not uncommon for us to keep a binder with receipts. We never go add them up, or the $ grand total scares us. Especially if the spouse might ask for the number. Yet, we still keep those receipts. Any chance you can find that 16 year old receipt and see if there is a couple of lines for material costs? That might be a big hint for you on what type of paint was used.

No deal on receipts and the shop that painted it is out of business. The shop was a Buick Pontiac and OLDs dealership with one hell of a bodyshop.

Pics will have to wait. They want a URL. Really. Insert image is provide a URL . I will have to work on that one.

If you have an image in .jgp, .gif, or .png on your computer, you can upload it to your Meguiar's Online Gallery.
Then you can find that URL to use in posts.

    To upload images.
First find the image on your computer.
Then sign on to the forums as your Member name.
On the Top Gold Menu bar, click on the "GALLERY" button.
Then click on the Red Menu Bar, click on "UPLOAD PHOTOS".
That brings a screen up that will allow you to upload about 10 photos.
Click on the first "CHOOSE FILE"
Then navigate through the directory structure on your computer to where your image is stores. Click on your image and it will stage it for upload.
Once all are chosen, click "UPLOAD/SUBMIT".

This set of instructions will tell you how to find the URL to use to include your image in your post.

From the main Gold Top Menu Bar, click on "GALLERY".
On the Red Menu Bar, click on "MY PHOTOS".
Now you should see your images come up.
Click on the image you want to find the URL.
Find the words "LINKED IMAGE" Click on the code in the box to the right.
Press Control +C to copy the link.

This is an example of the code for my 1948 Pontiac Fire Truck image..

You can paste this into a text file or open a new email (we will trash it soon) and paste it there.

Exit and go to your new post.
Then to add this URL as you add an image.
Click the square ICON with a image of a tree that says "INSERT IMAGE".
A pop up asks for the URL.
Use Control +v to paste the url into the box.
    Then click on "OK".

It should appear like the old Bear ad his Fire Truck does below.

And of course I find a good tutorial too. Holypefully between the two, they will get you posting images.
