What are minimum and maximum BP's that can be used with MT310?

    Thx

    Re: MT310 BP's

We designed this machine to work best with the 5" backing plate and pads. The 3" backing plate and pads can also be used but keep in mind when working with a DA machine the smaller the pad the more aggressive the impact on the surface.

        Re: MT310 BP's

Technically a DBP6 can be used but is not ideal. This machine was dialed in specifically for our system of 5" pads. You will experience better and more consistent performance using the 5" system. A large part of the decision behind offering a 6" option was simply to offer a backing plate and pads for those using a different machine. The intention was not that someone should use 6" pads with our MT300, MT310.

          OK, pretty much all clear.
So, does DBP6 with your DFC/DFP and DFF 6" pads useless with MT300/310 or just not perform as good as 5"

"Useless" would probably be too strong of a word. Yes, in some situations the 5" system will certainly perform better. There are also potential issues with ergonomics, long term wear, etc.

              Re: MT310 BP's

If I might chime in here: The MT3xx series tool (last two digits change based on geographic region, dictated by voltage and plug type for those who are curious about such things) was really optimized for our 5" backing plate and 5" thin foam discs and microfiber discs. The counterweight, in this case a single piece billet steel unit, is weighted to match the mass of the 5" plate/discs to provide optimal smoothness of operation. Further, maximum cut will be delivered with the 5" option on this tool. You will notice an increase in vibration, and a reduction in cut, if you choose to use the 6" backing plate on this tool. You really will be happier with the 5" option when using this tool.

We do offer a 3" backing plate in the US market for this tool, and that works great with the MT3xx tools as well. I don't believe this plate is available in Germany, but there are plenty of 3" plates on the market that will fit a standard threaded DA tool, so they'll work great with this tool. Going with both a 5" and 3" plate, and the associated pads/discs, will give you a single tool with multiple personalities - great cutting and finishing ability with tons of torque for general purpose (ie, main body panels) cutting and finishing, plus that smaller footprint when needed to reach tighter areas.

                Michael

Thank you very much for clarification. I use your machine last 12 months or so and I am very happy with it.
The only reason I am asking about 6" BP and low profile pads is because I bought machine as a kit from distributor.
So, inside package was machine + 6" DBP + 6" low profile pads (DFC/DFP/DFF) so obviously distributor was not 100% informed about machine best working setup (5" one).
Btw I also have your 5" BP which I use regularly with some other pads but frim time to time I have to use 6" pads when I have to polish really big panel like hood of BMW or Mercedes :-)

Old thread but can not resist to post.
After all debate and conclusion about 6" BPs/pads now description on your web site for 6" pads says: "Ideal when used with dual action polisher like Meguiar's MT300 Dual Action Polisher and Meguiar's DBP6 - 6" Soft Buff DA Backing Plate"

                  Ideal???

Nice catch. Everything that was already discussed in this thread is accurate. We launched a new website a couple of months ago and apparently some stock bullet points were used for the product pages in question. They have already been updated.
