Pictures from June 1st, 2017 Thursday Night Open Garage (TNOG)

First up for our next TNOG at Meguiar's Garage was one of our regular attendant's 1984 Mazda RX-7. The car is going to be part of an upcoming video for a youtube channel, so the owner is planning to detail the car prior to the filming. Some testing was completed in a small section to determine the best plan of action. Odometer reads a few thousand under 100k. Very cool car.

Next up was a friend of one of our regular TNOG attendants and her 2007 Toyota Corolla. The owner had tried what she knew but the car gets run through automatic car washes & the evidence was apparent...

Results after claying. We ended up using our Professional C2100 Aggressive Clay to make the process quicker.

We weren't looking for show car results so opted to perform more of a one step polish using our M205 Ultra Finishing Polish applied with our DFC5 on MT300 Dual Action Polisher. Here the owner has a try at the DA Polisher.

And starting to look much better!

The headlights were also in need of some TLC. Someone decided to try applying our M105 Ultra Cut Compound via G3507 DA Power Compounding Pad on our MT300 the process worked quite well for these lights.

With a slightly slower night than usual, we ended up completing the entire car & the owner also got quite a bit of practice using a dual action polisher under the guidance of myself & our TNOG regulars.

Ultimate Fast Finish was applied for our final LSP.

Next up was one of our regular's co-worker's Nissan Altima. M100 Pro Speed Compound was applied on one of our 5 Inch DA Microfiber Cutting Discs, followed with M205, and Black Wax was actually used for the LSP.

Next up was this Chevrolet El Camino which is cared for quite well, in fact is has not been washed with water in 3 years. The owner had picked up some swirls & scratches in the black stripes over the years from wiping the vehicle down & what seems to be physical contact scratches, possibly from driving on the freeway. We started by claying the entire hood but did not pull off much of any contaminants.

We tried the following test spots on the black stripes:

M205 Ultra Finishing Polish/DFP5/MT300/4800 OPM/ 3 passes per section/ Moderate pressure/Moderate arm speed = removed 60 - 70 % of the shallow swirls, but the deep scratches were still apparent. Paint seemed to be on the hard side.

M205 Ultra Finishing Polish/DFC5/MT300/4800 OPM/ 3 passes per section/ Moderate pressure/Moderate arm speed = removed 90% of the shallow swirls, but the deep scratches were swtill apparent.

G17216 Ultimate Compound/DFC5/MT300/5800 OPM/ 3 passes per section/ Moderate pressure/Moderate arm speed = removed 100 % of the shallow swirls & started to work away at the random deep scratches, but more cut was still needed. Paint is determined to be fairly hard/resilient

M100 Pro Speed Compound/DMC3/ MT300/4800 OPM/ 3 passes per section/ Moderate pressure/Moderate arm speed + RID spot repair = 100 % defect removal of both swirls & random isolated deep scratches. Process also produced very little haze.

And the test spot winner was M100 Pro Speed Compound on our DMC3 3 Inch DA Microfiber Cutting Disc. The strength of the M100 combined with the cutting ability of the small DMC3 pad on our MT300 worked to our satisfaction.

4 - 5 passes with M205 Ultra Finishing Polish were applied with our MT300 on a DFF5 Foam Finishing Disc after our compound process. Below are a couple pictures of black stripes reflection in just the overheard florescent lights which show the random deep scratches.

All finished & looking good! Thanks to everyone for coming out! Have a good weekend!

    Nice transformation work, as always.

El Camino required quite extensive spot testing to be performed, but the end results were definitely worth this extra time spent, for sure.

I wanted to thank Nick and each of the detailers that came over to correct my technique with the DA.
Although I have owned one for a year, the shoulder has finally mended to where I can use one.
