  • D151 & Acid Free Wheel/Tire Cleaner

    I just ordered a gallon of each ... the problem is I don't know the best way to use the D151 or the best dilution ratios for the Wheel & Tire Cleaner.

    Could I get some advice?

    D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream is quite versatile. It can be applied by hand, all the way up to a rotary. I have even heard of it being applied with a wool pad on a rotary buffer. You can adjust the cutting ability of the product based on the machine you are using, the pad you are using, and of course your speed & technique. Basically, the more aggressive manner you apply it, the more it is going to cut. (Don't take this the wrong way, it's not like you can obtain as much cut as you want or cut on par with a compound, but the cut can be adjusted based on how it is applied.) Here are a few options:

    First things first, D151 is best applied & wiped off in panel at a time size sections.

    D151 w/ a DA Polisher & a foam finishing disc like Meguiar's DFF5 Soft Buff DA Foam Finishing Disc. For quick added gloss & protection and very light cleaning, apply 2 overlapping passes quickly to a small section, and wipe residue off.

    D151 w/a DA Polisher & a foam polishing disc like Meguiar's DFP5 Soft Buff DA Foam Polishing Disc. For light cleaning, added gloss, & protection, apply D151 on a foam polishing disc, applying in small sections, working the product in for 3+ passes per section, moderate pressure, moderate arm speed, wipe residue off.

    I think overall just play around with it & do some testing on different colors, and find what works best for your needs & goals.


    For D143 Non Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner, first things first, for heavy brake dust/grime this product typically requires more dwell time & more agitation than an acid based wheel cleaner like our Wheel Brightener. But it works very well for tires in addition to wheels, so even though it requires a little more dwell time & agitation, it can save you some time since it cleans the tires.

    The product can be diluted Up to 2:1. Below is a trick for diluting concentrates:

    Volume / Parts Total
    For concentrates ending in 1 (20:1, 10:1, 4:1, etc.).
    For Example:
    20:1 into 32oz, 20 + 1 = 21. 32/21 = 1.5oz of concentrate. 32oz – 1.5oz = 30.5oz of water
    10:1 into 32oz, 10+1= 11. 32/11= 2.9oz of concentrate. 32oz - 2.9oz = 29.1oz of water
    4:1 into 32oz, 4+1 = 5. 32/5 = 6.4oz of concentrate. 32oz – 6.4oz = 25.6oz of water
    3:1 into 32 oz, 3+1 = 4. 32/4 = 8 oz of concentrate. 32oz – 8 oz = 24 oz of water
    2:1 into 32 oz, 2+1 = 3. 32/3 = 10.6 oz of concentrate. 32 oz – 10.6 oz = 21.4 oz of water

            For D143 Non Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner, I usually dilute to 10:1 and use with a foaming sprayer, the pinkish foam turns a nasty brown in a minute and a little agitation with my Daytona wheel brush makes for an easy clean up on my wheels/tires, I would dilute to 4:1 if my wheels were really dirty. But 10:1 is great for my cars.
