  • M83 hard to wipe off.

Using a DA at 4.5 speed with the new DFP6 yellow foam polishing pad. Product seems to dry hard on the finish making it a struggle to wipe off with a microfiber cloth. I'm working in the shade. Am I using too much/little product? Wrong pad? Wrong speed? Working it too much? Is there a better product I could substitute for M83?

The product is most easily able to wipe off when it is a thin, light wet translucent film. How many section passes are you completing in each section area before the product dries?

I'll go over a section with the DA maybe 5-6 times.

I used to have this happen back in the late 90's.

I ended up throwing the bottle away, but I'm ready to try again!

Hopefully my technique has improved in 19 years.

I've used M83 many many times, before Ultimate Polish and M205 have become available though, and I haven't experienced any issues with its wipe-off.

High surface temperature is out of question as you mentioned working in shaded area.

I would clay the paint, before next application of M83, just to make sure there are no bonded contaminants interfering with the process, and clean polishing pad(s) more often, plus using 2-3 of them per car.

The best working area is about 2 feet x 2 feet. Smaller area may concentrate too much product on it.

Well, I just used M83 on a duct cleaning truck. Single stage black paint, and orange Harbor Freight cutting pads (I wasn't going to use my good pads on that beast). The tool used was an original Porter-Cable 7424. The XP was vibrating like crazy, so I used the original. These stiff pads and 6" plates ride really hard on the PC. The Meguiar's pads run much nicer, especially the 5".

            Totally different experience!

Even when I was on the roof of that thing, polishing that black paint in the sun, it wiped off effortlessly. Not at all like my experience in 1998/9 when it was like cement.

I started with four drop of product on the pad, and was able to reload with anywhere from one to three dots.

This is the perfect polish for that particular service on my menu.

            I finished with M21.
