  • training courses?

    Hi all,

After several years of attempt with my DA, rotary, a number of pads, plus a number of products... and a very scratched car, I've come to the conclusion that I'm simply terrible at it.
I watch in envy at all the car detailing videos, attempt to replicate exactly what is done, and I don't seem to be getting anywhere.

I've seen some videos of what appears to be training courses in the US. Just wondering, is anything similar offered in Sydney, Australia?

I would be very interested in taking up a course and to at least have some closure of what I've been doing wrong.

    Thanks!

    Re: training courses?

    Hi st87,

I am not sure if you have tried to start a thread regarding the results you have not been getting, but I think you would be surprised how this community can diagnose help with communication via the forum.

In regards to training classes in Australia, we would suggest contacting our partner in Australia direct, Meguiar's Australia.

      Re: training courses?

Thanks Nick. I'll contact them and hope for a response.
I think I have posted a few threads in the past asking for advice, but I think after all that, it's the physical aspect of the exercise that I'm not getting right.
It could be my posture, my physique, etc. I don't think I'm holding it right.
I get a bad back and a bad pull on my shoulders even after using a DA on my bonnet. Would be worse on my rotary as that thing is even heavier.

I started off with a DA because it is easier to use, however, I don't get the results I want. Sanding marks do "gloss" a little more, but it doesn't have that mirror shine. So I went out and bought a rotary. Have been using 101 with soft buff polishing pad with the DA.

I then tried the rotary. That thing is quite a beast, even at lower settings. I have difficulties controlling the angle and keeping it straight, as I continually find myself fighting with it to keep it from "running away".

My best "success" (if you can call it that) is a wool pad and the 85 diminishing compound at the time. I think it gave me a false positive (do these things have polishing oils?) as it looked really good at first, but after a while, the swirl marks were quite obvious (after washing the car, for instance).

After I'm done with it, I may as well have not done anything at all, as the car would have looked much better with the orange peel from the freshly painted surface compared to what I did to it.

What's the year, make and model of your car you're working on st? Maybe you just have a hopeless case with your ride?

It is a Lexus IS250. Bonnet was resprayed a few years back. Not sure what brand the clear coat was.
