  • Question about backing plate and pad compatability

I'm looking at purchasing a Griots Garage DA buffer/polisher to apply Meguiars Ultimate Polish to my car. The DA polisher I noted comes standard with a 6" backing plate and 6.5" pads, which I think is way too big!

i would like to use 5" pads, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find anywhere that sells a generic 5" backing plate for DA Polishers, and I can't find any 5" pads. I would like to purchase both from Meguiars if they sell them, but I can't find anywhere.

The whole pad and backing plate issue is very confusing (to me anyway). Any help/direction offered would be greatly appreciated!

    From the Meguiar's Store:

There's also an assortment of matching 5" discs in the same "professional products" section.
For the GG Polisher, buy the 5" discs, as they're much more effective than the thicker pads and easier to maintain pad rotation on curved surfaces.

^^ Agreed. I have the same setup bought with the MF system before I moved to foam pads. (I clicked on the link above & it seems to be dead. If you call Meg's customer service I'm sure they'd be able to help you.)

Can all of the 5" Megs pads that I use on my MT300 also be used on a 5" Griots backing plate??

            The below thread might help

Amazon has what you're looking for. I finally needed to buy new pads as my old W8006/9006 pads are finally wearing out. I got three each of the three different 5" pads and the 5" backing plate from Amazon, all available for Prime shipping too.
