need pro for stripe removal and paint correction on Red 06 mustang - Poconos PA 18302

I haven't been on in a while - life's caught up and kept me busy. Anyway I picked up an 06 Mustang for the GF and it has terribly deteriorated vinyl stripes on it which were half removed, and the paint is swirl city. I'm looking to hire somebody who knows how to remove severely weathered vinyl stripes (you can not peel them off in 1 piece, they are all cracked) and the glue. I will order the "vinyl eraser" wheels if required, unless you have a better idea. As well we would like the paint corrected it's all scratches, swirls, and other marks from years of neglect. We know it won't turn out perfect because of paint chips and things but would like this car looking as good as a human can possibly get it to be. If you are up for the challenge, this car would make a great "Extreme Makeover" showcase. East Stroudsburg PA 18302 is the area. Please send a message or leave me your contact number so we can schedule a day and time. Spring is coming, GF is getting impatient and wants this car done yesterday.

I am ashamed to even show these photos, but I didn't do this to the car. I'm just the idiot who purchased it hoping we could bring it back to life.

As a bonus, we have a brand new painted rear bumper which will be installed on this car, so the rear bumper in the photos need not be touched. I just need to put the new one on the car, if you would like to help with this that task as well let me know.

To remove the stripes, I used ABN 4" (its actually 3.5" false advertising) pinstripe removal wheel for the drill, this product works great it removes the vinyl and the glue but user beware. This rubber wheel gets hot and may burn or bubble the paint when doing work this extensive. Do not press down, just let it ride and hold the drill steady - keep moving! We had it happen to the front bumper, but luckily we are already going to replace the front bumper because of paint cracking from the previous owner hitting something.

After that I ran meguiars ultimate compound on a makita 743403 polishing pad, on my makita 9237 running about 3,800 rpms. The compound cut down all the touch up paint the dealer had applied to the car, and completely got rid of the "ghost" as people call it from having the stripes on the car.

I have yet to finish / polish it, but I will be using my DA polisher and some meguiar's #9 swirl remover 2.0 on a polishing pad to remove any remaining holograms left from the makita.

The car will be topped off with Meguiar's G36516 paint protectant.

Looks great, well done! I have a similar wheel that I bought for my previous vehicle but never ended up using it. It's good to know that they actually do work well. Did you peel the decals off the rest of the way first or just take everything off with the wheel? Were you able to do it all with one wheel?

The wheel will remove the vinyl, and the glue all in 1 shot and the residual removed bits will load up with powderized bits of the eraser wheel, this not being sticky anymore generally. The wheel requires virtually no pressure to use, simply make sure you are holding it totally level with the surface so that you don't wear it down unevenly. This car took me 2 wheels to do, both had about 1/2 left on them but it gets too difficult to use them once they are that small as the drill will be too close and risk scratching the car at that point.

It took a couple hours to do the entire car, and as previouslyt mentioned.. these things get so hot they can and will melt the cars paint right off it. Keep the wheel cool by giving it a break after each line you remove. As for technique, you will want to go in the direction of the wheel, so if you start at the wiper cowl , you go in 1 straight line right down to the front grille. Then start back up at the top, and do the next line. If you try and go side to side, the wheel will just make a mess and you won't be able to tell what area you have cleaned off already - this could lead to over heating and paint failure.

Best of luck on your vinyl removal! Take your time be confident and don't be shy about stopping and coming back to it later if your arms get tired. I got impatient towards the end and the paint bubbled on me. It bubbles much easier on plastic things like bumpers and spoilers than it does on sheet metal. Also, the wheel has the ability to melt brake lenses and headlights, so either masking tape them up or be careful not to touch the moving wheel to them. Ask me how I know! lol
