  • What is this on my car!? Looks like fine misting of sap???

this is a pic of driver side window.

What the eff is this on my car, its gotten worse in the past week.
After a foam gun/hand wash its still on the car... on the windshield, sides, everywhere its bad.. Its clear and kinda smears when i rub it, and its hard bumpy all over the car.

Since my new challenger is black i take care in what i do when washing or polishing.
I use meguiars gold+pressure washer+foam gun.. then 2 bucket grit guards.
The car already has a coating of meguiars sealant 2.0, and its probably time for another reapplication.

My question is, what can i soak the whole car with to get this hardened misting off?
Its aggravating because its winter time, and trees are misting sap?? wth.

Any help is appreciated, and yes i do stick with megs products.

The way you describe it does sound like hardened tree sap. The only way I've found to remove it is clay, & you'll have to turn the clay often because this stuff will gum it up quickly. There may be some chemicals that will take it off but I don't know what they'd be & which ones would be safe to use on paint.

I would wash the entire car again and try to use a clay bar, on some small area first, to see if it can effectively remove it.
Clay bar can be used on windows as well.

I would recommend NxT car wash as its cleaning ability is stronger.

You could clean the glass with gas, it will strip it off like nothing. I had sap on my truck before, I tried goo gone and rubbing and rubbing barely scratched it. Bit of gas on a rag and bam gone. Then immediately soap and water to wash the area. Now I know gas on the paint isn't something most will do but it works.

My other car had a fine mist like that on it from parking near an asphalt factory. Looked just like that except it was brown/black. Nothing would take it off except clay, but one swipe and the clay was black and almost ruined. Being much cheaper, I used paint thinner, on several microfiber cloths. Whole car. Took it off easily and doesn't hurt the clearcoat on a GM vehicle. Just use several cloths, turn frequently, and don't use heavy pressure. Gas will work just as well as trailblazer295 says, but being more flammable, I prefer to use paint thinner. Same with road tar, bugs, etc. paint thinner. Works great. Obviously you will have to polish and wax again..(at least wax again)

If you can catch it on the car soon washing typically removes it but if it is sap, once it is on there, like others have said, either a clay bar, or the appropriate automotive specific solvent.

You might try NANOSKIN pad on your DA. It is a silicon pad like clay. Can quickly do body and glass.

Petroleum based solvents/spirits in many cases can dissolve those stubborn hardened tree sap. As for my case, I use kerosene on those annoying hardened stains, usually asphalt/road tar, insects, bugs, misc.. I do however find that clay removes tree sap more effortlessly than kerosene alone. I don't know how terrible tree sap issues are where you live, in my case, but I also have tree sap issues on our cars.

Whatever direction/product you use, You will have to reapply wax. If I were you, I would just redo the entire car.

i did a few spots with microfiber and 70% rubbing alcohol. took it off quite well, the sap misting is very light but this is an added rubbing and swiping on a black car i could do without. Considering im adamant on not putting swirls and scratches on the clearcoat.

yea, i'll definately have to do a full rewax/resealing. ugh.
Was really hoping for a solution to put in my foam gun so i can spray the car down and hand wash the misting off, that way i dont have to add any extra steps to the detailing process.
