Do foam pads wear out?

I use the 6 inch yellow pads usually with 83. Lately when starting on a car I get a lot of debris flying off the pad. I rinse them out the last time I use them so they are pretty clean but is this just foam bits coming off? It stops after doing a few panels but still annoying.

Pads do wear out. The mechanical action of a car polisher puts stress on them. Also there is some heat build up associated with buffing process as well.

When pads seem to be worn out it's time to replace them with new ones. Cutting/polishing pads will become less effective faster than finishing/waxing pads.

Which specific 6 inch foam pads are you using? Our latest Soft Buff DA Foam Discs or our older W8006 etc series of 6 inch pads?

Oh yeah, especially cutting pads.

I look at it this way, the abrasives that are cutting the paint, are also going to be acting on the foam as well.

If you're pads are the old ones, the foam might just be getting old.

I got some of their new thin foam discs.... Wow, what an improvement over their thicker offerings.

Actually just read the label and it's a 7" W8207. Says, FOR USE WITH ROTARY BUFFER OR D/A POLISHER" The only 7" foam pad I see listed now is WRFP7 and it says its for just the rotary. What changed with this pad that it can't be used with a D/A like the old 7" pad?

We used to run our 7 Inch Soft Buff 2.0 Pads on both rotary & DA. We have since designed & now recommend our 5 or 6 inch Soft Buff DA Foam Discs. More information can be referenced below:
