Hello,

My name is Sin and I have been restoring a 2000 Toyota Tacoma for 2 years. I just picked up a new car and after learning much about restoring old paint, I don't have the slightest idea about how to care for NEW car paint. What glosses do I use? How frequent should I detail? Are there other preventative measures to take to make the paint last?

For a new car, the first important step to learn is proper washing accessories & techniques. Our X3002 Microfiber Wash Mitt & X2000 Water Magnet Microfiber Drying Towel are great for this task. A Two Bucket Washing Method is recommended, one for your properly diluted car wash, and a second for plain water to help keep your wash mitt clean.

Next is to evaluate for bonded above surface contaminants. When the paint is clean & dry, inspect & feel the paint with your hand. If it feels rough, it is recommend to use a clay bar like our Smooth Surface Clay Kit to remove the bonded above surface contaminants.

Next is to evaluate for below surface defects. This is done with proper lighting. Direct sunlight, florescent lights in a garage, or even an LED light can help to reflect any swirls, scratches, or stains which may be present, even on a new car. If there are heavy swirls & scratches, our Ultimate Compound can usually remove them pretty easily. If you have light swirls, you can skip compound & go straight to polish. Our Ultimate Polish has mild cleaning ability to remove light swirls, plus it will enhance gloss. If you don't have any of these issues, you can wash & go straight to wax.
