IPA, I it really necessary?

Hi guys,

I am planning to clay my black car (in pretty good conditions, only some swirls) then Polish with my Meguiars DA power tool and then I will seal the paint with a Menzerna Power Lock sealant. Here my question, is it necessary to apply an IPA solution between the Polish and waxing?

Unless the manufacturer calls for using an diluted IPA solution prior to applying then no it is not necessary to do. IPA is used primarily for two reasons when it comes to automotive paint, one is after compounding or polishing, to strip any polishing oils left behind from the product being applied. This is done to ensure the product being used is not hiding any defects because of fillers or polishing oils. None of Meguiar's products have fillers or are designed to hid defects, but any wax or product with polishing oils can naturally hid certain defects to a certain extent, so some choose to do an IPA wipedown. Secondly IPA diluted solutions are used prior to applying certain semi permanent coating products, to strip polishing oils, if the manufacturer calls for it.
