  • Hello

Hi, I live near Cheyenne, Wyoming so we do get some windy and nasty weather some times and some beautiful weather during the summer. Cheyenne is the home of the Cheyenne Frontier Days called the "Daddy of them All". For those unfamiliar it is a 10 day rodeo with night shows featuring top entertainers, parades, free pancake breakfasts, the Thunderbird's performance etc.

As mentioned the weather can get nasty and I try to take care of my vehicles and don't like the road salt/solutions, nor the windshield de icer fluid but it is necessary. Does anyone know of a de icer winshield fluid that is not harmful to the vehicles paint etc.? I use Meguiar's Show Glaze 7 and Hi-Tech Yellow Wax at least once a year and sometimes twice depending on the road miles and exposure to the sun.

    Thanks. NormL

Welcome to MOL! Hopeful other members can help you in regards to the windshield de-icer fluid. I would comment that since you are only applying a wax a couple times a year, you might want to consider one of our more durable synthetic polymer based waxes like our Ultimate Wax.

      Re: Hello

I don't have too much help for you on the de-icer side of things. I generally use just a normal methanol based washer fluid (good for around -20 I believe). Rain-X deicer might do better about not damaging paint, but the best course of action for you is to use a stronger protection on the paint in general. Like Nick said, switch to something with more protection. PP365 handled the Mag Chloride around here like a champ last year and didn't break down from washer fluid either.

I've also found using a glass sealant or coating helps a ton with ice and snow removal from windows in the colder months.

Having grown up in northern Colorado and spent a lot of time in Wyoming, I understand the frustrations with battling the winters. Fox Park is one of my favorite spots to camp up there.
