  • Newbie can't open link

I just joined. Trying to get info on protecting my newly 3M vinyl wrapped satin white pearl M3. I tried to open this link, http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...read.php?49291 but it says I do not have permission to open.

Any help on protecting vinyl wrap satin finish would be much appreciated. All I have seen is wash it. Use tar and bug remover for stains. I'm more interested in being pro active in protecting the vinyl to maintain it in it's new condition as much as possible.

Thanks in advance fro you help.

    Re: Newbie can't open link

Hi Michael - sorry about that post being off limits; it was moved to a Moderators Only area of MOL since we discontinued the Wraptivo line of vinyl wrap material a few years ago. Apparently the link to the video was not removed from the list of Quik Tips Video links, which is how you came across it.

In short, the video basically just says that you should avoid using any sort of abrasive product on vinyl wraps - things like compounds and finishing polishes that are used on paint to remove defects like swirls, scratches, etchings, etc. Any of our washes, including Ultimate Wash & Wax and Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere are great on vinyl wraps, including matte vinyl, so there are no worries there. You'll want to avoid using paste waxes and most liquid waxes on vinyl, however, but spray waxes like Ultimate Quik Wax are great - super easy to use and they give great UV protection.

Keep in mind that vinyl is much softer than paint, so it's going to be more prone to attacks from things like hard water spotting, acid rain, etc. That's only made worse by the fact that vinyl just doesn't lend itself to leveling like paint does, which is the only way you're going to remove below surface defects like etching, scratches, etc. That means that when damage does occur, it's not always fixable without peeling off the old vinyl and replacing it with new. While there is definitely a cost associated with that, it's generally far, far lower than the cost associated with repainting a panel due to severe, irreparable defects.

So, in a nutshell, all you really can do is wash the vinyl often (using Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere makes that process super fast, and super convenient) and keep it coated with Ultimate Quik Wax on a regular basis (like every time you wash the car).
