Re: buffer trails (holograms) after polishing

Try use a very fine finishing polish that's formulated with scratch proof paint in mind ( such as sonax nano polish 3/6 or menzerna 3800) with MF pad or megs black foam pad.

If on foam pad, prime the pad with a light mist of final inspection , apply polish very generously, tilt the pad a little bit while working and see if you can get the marks done. Scratch proof paint is very tricky because tiny bit of lack in pad lubrication or excessive speed can result in nasty holograms . Be patient and work slow. Concentrate on a test area (e.g. Boot lid) until you are sure the defects r gone.
