Another great day for a Detailing 101 Class and for today's demonstration car we worked on this 2014 Ford Mustang.
One of Meguiar's Customer Engagement Specialists, Danny Hernandez, led the instruction today.
After wiping off the light dust with our Quik Detailer spray, we evaluated for any bonded contaminants by feeling the paint with our hands. It indeed felt rough to the touch, so we used our Smooth Surface Clay Kit to remove the bonded contaminants.
After the team completed claying, we pulled the car out into the direct sunlight to really get a good idea of what we were working with. Below is one of our before pictures. The owner of the car was surprised to see all of these defects, but we explained to her that this is very normal.
Danny first tested our normal go to, Ultimate Compound on our DFC5 applied with our MT300 at 5800 OPMS. The first attempt only eliminated about 50% of the defects, but this was only because Danny's initial arm speed was a little to fast & we did not have quite enough pressure being applied. We completed a second attempt and slowed down our arm speed to a moderate pace, and applied moderate pressure, and the attempt eliminated the defects to our satisfaction of around 90%+. This is a perfect example of how just the slightest change in technique can make a big difference in results. In total the paint ended up needing fours passes in each section, all overlapping 50% in a two foot square area, vertical, horizontal, vertical, horizontal, wipe off.
We then followed with Ultimate Polish on our DFP5 and completed 3 section passes at 4800 OPM, vertical, horizontal, vertical, wipe off.
Now it was time to give the class attendants some one of one instruction of proper use with a DA.
After we completed the hood we followed with a coat of our Ultimate Liquid Wax. We pulled the car out into the sun for some after shots. Looks a little better! : ) Thanks to everyone for coming!
