  • "C" Day is tomorrow!

For the last few years I have had a cataract in my right eye that has been getting progressively worse to the point that my vision in that eye is worse than 20/200. So I'm basically a Cyclops. I can't pass ANY eye test with it, certainly not my Driver's License test (which is in 27 days). I can see shapes, but no details and street lights look like rings of light with a dot of light in the center. I can't even read my watch unless I put it within a hand's width from my eye and even then it's blurry.

But that all changes tomorrow! At 11:00 AM, I am going under the teeny, tiny knife & micro vacuum cleaner and having it removed and a new lens put in. I've been waiting all summer for this appointment and it's finally here I WILL need reading glasses though, which will be interesting, because with my LEFT eye, I can read fine ... I have to take OFF my glasses to read. I had Lasik 10 years ago and like they told me, as I age, I would likely, eventually need glasses again (probably bifocals), but so far there is only a slight degradation in my left eye & I can't quite see the FINER details at a distance (like trying to read license plates).

Oh, the joys of turning 50 ... in 27 days ...

      Yes, I hope it's a successful operation.

Dr said the operation went perfectly, I'm wearing an eye guard, but even so, 12 hours later, my vision is incredibly sharp. There are a few halos & such when looking directly at a light source but otherwise the eye seems to be recovering quickly. I have my first follow-up appointment at 0900 this morning so I'll see how it goes then.

Good to hear it went well for you. You save a few bucks not doing laser?

Beats me, since it was medically necessary, my insurance paid for it all.

                  Re: "C" Day is tomorrow!

Don, I will share a recommendation to you and others.

If you do not have a Passport. Apply now and make sure you have it as a (backup to your license) photo ID.
I got a normal DMV in the mail renewal. It included health questions. I answered them and sent my renewal check about 45 days prior to license expiration date. DMV cashed the check. About 4 months later, I got a letter stating that my license was not renewed and I was not to drive! That is only one downsides.

It took 7 months to resolve. Something similar to DMV investigating DUI (except it was for a stroke 30 months earlier).
Most businesses treated me as someone who changed identities the night I went to sleep on my birthday and the license expired. Same license with info and picture I had carried for many years. Yet I must have awaken as a different person.

Mom passed away. Although I had paperwork (Trust) showing I was the Successor Trustee, I was required to bring other family members to sign to bury her.

Banks (except two of our Credit Unions) treated me as a non existent person. After many visits, providing 6 inches of paperwork, and 4 months of working together, one branch manager (of a massive banking chain) invited me to come in and close her burial account. He told the Asst Mgr to make sure check was available the next day (Saturday). Instead, she refused to issue the check, even though I presented a letter from DMV. I said that she needed to call the Branch Mgr and she refused. Came back and told me they called 911 because I was trespassing. Three times they told me they called 911 and I was to leave the bank. I refused. I am not getting shot in the back while leaving a bank! I sat near the glass door with hands in clear view and cell in hands. I started dialing and the bank employees demanded to know who I was calling. I said 911, since they were in violation of laws. I Immediately found out they lied about their calls, as they scrambled to get a 911 call in before I could. Took a while with 2 Sheriffs who (not incorrectly) treated my like a criminal for 30 minutes. Then the bank came out and asked me to sit near the door while they closed the account. Some banks chase their customers away.

There were many more incidences like this. Including, one post office refusing to submit my passport application because the date on my license had passed. She just wasn't comfortable with it. A different post office declined to accept the application, because my birth certificate was a hospital one (now called Obama Birth Certs). Hey, that got me into multiple schools, colleges and accepted by Army when I was going to be drafted. The State off TN records refused to provide a copy of Birth Certificate because the photo image of my CADL showed an expiration date that had passed.

Strongly recommending to everyone to get that passport now! Keep it renewed.
