  • CCS Polishing Compound - having trouble buffing off

i spent 2 to 3 hours buffing off clear coat safe polishing compound and it also left my paint looking a little dull. Im sure its not supposed to be that much of a chore so must be something im doing wrong.
It seemed to be quite sticky and being a cold night probably didnt help. I wetted the applicator pad hoping to make it go on a bit easier but that didnt seem to help much . I did a 1/4 of the car at a time and trying to buff off took a lot of pressure and a lot of wiping. I had to go over and over the car about 3 times using several high quality microfiber cloths to get it all off.
a few hours later I waxed it with white wax (White metallic pearl paint) and buffed by hand. The results were a little disappointing and not as shiny as i wanted.

Should i have used polishing compound for a 3 month old car, or was it too cold (about 10C/50F).

Should i remove both products and do it again differently ?

    What compound did you use?

You should have followed up the compound with a Polish. Like up or m/205.

White wax has some polishing properties but not enough needed after using a compound. It's mainly a cleaner wax.

      hi
      I used this product
" Meguiar's Clear Coat Safe Polishing Compound quickly adds gloss and shine to paint surfaces by hand. Our mild abrasives and polishing oils remove light swirls & haze, producing a brilliant finish. "

was it the wrong product to use ? I thought it was a polish

So anyway now that i have used it how do i take it off and start again ?

Are you working by hand or machine? Did you let the product dry or did you remove as you went along?

it said it was for hand use only and to not let it dry so i split the car into 4 sections and wiped off before starting the next.

The first wipe got most of it off but it took many other go's to remove the rest, i think it was because it was too cold and it stuck to the paint more than usual

What I really want to know now is how to remove and what product should i use ?

Re: CCS Polishing Compound - having trouble buffing off

Sorry to hear about the trouble. When applying a paint cleaner or polish like our Clear Coat Safe Polishing Compound, when working by hand, we typically suggest working in a small 1 square foot or 2 foot square area at a time. A soft foam applicator pad to apply and a microfiber towel can make application much easier. Keeping your hand flat, work the product in circular overlapping motions. The product should ideally break down to a light wet film, this is when it is most easily able to wipe off. A small amount of product per section is all that is needed. It was quite cold out for application of the product, we typically recommend at minimum 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

If a paint cleaner, compound, or polish ever does dry onto the paint, an easy way to remove the product would be to re-apply over the area. Once the product is applied & wiped off there is nothing left to remove, so the next question is what are you trying to achieve, remove swirls, more gloss, or provide protection.

            Hope this helps!

thanks Nicholas, i appreciate your input,

as its a new car and too long to fit into the garage i want to protect it from the elements and with the nice white pearl paint i want it to really shine.
I just bought myself a random orbital polisher too so looking to re-polish with a product that i can machine to get extra shine and then finish with a really good protective wax.
Do i just go over the existing product or take it off first ?
