  • #26 and winter.

I could not find an answer using the search function so I am starting a new thread.

I have never used a carnuba wax before so I was wondering if anybody here have any experience with how long #26 wax will last during winter before I have to wax the car again? In Norway the roads are heavily salted so I usually was the car two times a week, I also use a petroleum based degreaser to remove the traffic film and I don

Probably a few weeks at best. A sealant may be your next step up in protection followed by a coating.

A so-called "sealant" will be no different than a carnauba wax, and sealants will wash right off before the weather gets to it if you wash that often. A coating will fair better, but the coating itself will still get dirty, so it's not really changing the problem. My advice is to use M26 and boost it regularly after your washes with Gold Class Quik Wax. You can also use a mix of Gold Class Shampoo and Ultimate Wash and Wax (which has some carnauba) to do those washes, and try the waterless product Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere, which also contains a bit of carnauba. In short, the problem will be solved by modifying the regular maintenance you already enjoy

        Hi Kenneth82,

Sorry to see some of your post got cut off. If needed, you can edit your post.

Ok so given how you have described your washing techniques with the petroleum based degreaser two times a week, unfortunately any of our carnauba or synthetic based protectants are going to have a tough time lasting very long. The protection quality of our carnauba waxes will certainly be stripped off pretty easily using this technique to wash. We would imagine a carnauba wax to give you at the longest a week of protection. One of our synthetic offerings like our Ultimate Wax can be quite resilient, but using these techniques with degreaser will probably only last for a couple weeks at the longest. It should be noted that under a circumstance when a vehicle is washed with a pH balanced car wash, our synthetic offerings like our Ultimate Wax are significantly longer lasting and more durable than our carnauba based waxes.

If you are looking for a recommendation, we would suggest using one of our synthetic waxes like our Ultimate Liquid or Ultimate Paste Wax, and then looking into the use of our spray waxes, like our Ultimate Quik Wax. You can use our Ultimate Quik Wax after ever wash and this will work to add protection.

          Re: #26 and winter.

Dang, didn’t notice that my post got cut off. I can’t edit my post so I just will type in what I said again.

“I have never used a carnuba wax before so I was wondering if anybody here have any experience with how long #26 wax will last during winter before I have to wax the car again? In Norway the roads are heavily salted so I usually was the car two times a week, I also use a petroleum based degreaser to remove the traffic film and I don’t think that the wax will last very long.

So I was thinking about using Ultimate Wash and Wax instead off NXT Generation Car Wash that I am using now, and for maintaining the coating I was considering using Synthetic X-Press spray wax after washing. I can also live with not washing the car as often as I do, I’m just really anal about it.

I have been considering using a synthetic wax also, it’s just that its #26 I have now and want to continue using it. I have also thought about cutting down on using the petroleum based degreaser and start using Super Degreaser instead, but not sure what dilution ratio would be best for removing the traffic film and not stripping to much wax.

But it looks like a synthetic wax is the way to go for me.

Thanks for the answers so far guys, I appreciate it.

Then I can only repeat what I said above. Use the M26 (ie. #26) you want to use and don't let "FUD" get in the way. Use the carnauba-enriched wash (UWW), the carnauba-enriched waterless wash (UWWA), and the best carnauba-enriched spray wax there is, GCQW (Gold Class and Yellow Wax are sisters, and Synthetic Xpress Spray Wax is not a carnauba product - it's really UQW in a different bottle). See the common theme? Carnauba. It literally does not matter one little bit how long a given wax is supposed to last. What matters is how that hand or machine-waxed surface is cleaned and replenished of the carnauba look. So, using UWW, UWWA and GCQW will be all that matters - especially since you'll still need to do those steps with a 100% synthetic wax, anyway.

Super Degreaser will also degrade whatever protection you use on the paint. Instead wash the car routinely.
