  • Pictures from July 17th, 2016 Saturday Detailing 101

This Saturday Detailing 101 Class's project was this Audi S4 shipped all the way from Vermont for it's rare stick shift manual transmission. While only 14,000 miles, it still lived quite a hard life in the Northeast and had quite a few bonded contaminants & defects.

After performing a water-less wash with our Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere, we used our Smooth Surface Clay Kit to remove the bonded rough surface contaminants. Quite a few class attendants had never used a clay bar before and were amazed at the results.

Next we evaluated under different lighting for any defects within the paint.

Next we talked through the different types of tools used for machine polishing paint, and why we are big proponents of dual action polishers.

Our initial test spot was performed with our Ultimate Compound. This combination proved to not be enough to remove the defects to our satisfaction in this particular paint, so we moved up to our DA microfiber Correction System.

Performing a second test spot with our DA Microfiber Cutting Disc & our DA Microfiber Correction Compound. This combination removed the defects to our satisfaction. The paint on the car we could classify as "hard", meaning the defects were resilient to being removed by our machine compounding process.

Now time to get the class attendants comfortable with using our MT300 Dual Action Polisher.

After completing the compound step, we switched back to our 5 Inch DFP5 Foam Polishing Pad with our Ultimate Polish. Our Ultimate Polish is a cleaner/polish. The mild cleaning ability work to further refine the paint and develop a high gloss, as well as remove any haze from our compound step.

We then followed our Ultimate Polish with a coat of our Ultimate Liquid Wax and rolled the car out into the sun for some after pictures.

    Thanks to everyone for coming!

Had a great time in this Saturday class! If you ever get a chance to do one of these classes don't pass it up! The staff, Nick and Danny demystify the car detailing process...they make it fun and easy to understand so when I'm home I know I'm doing it right. Thanks again for everything!!!
