  • Pad selection help real quick please! backing plate vs pad size ?

Ok so i have 2 current machines

    g110v2 with a 5 inch backing plate
rupes 15 mark 2 with a 5 inch backing plate

im am interested in getting some of the new meguiars thin pads for my polishers but the main question is should i use the 5in pads or go with the 6in pads?

my old setup i use to have the 6 in backing plate on my g110v2 and was told to use the 7 in soft buff 2.0 pads.

my question is should i go 1in larger in pad selection with my current 5in backing plates? or just use the 5in pads to go along with them for both machines using the new 5in backing plates.

hope this isnt confusing and you know what im asking lol

Looks like this has been resolved via some private messaging, but just so everyone is clear here: our recommendation for the new thin foam discs on either our current MT300 or "legacy" tools like the G110v2 or even a Porter Cable 7424 or Griot's Garage tool would be to go with the 5" discs mounted to a 5" backing plate. The plate is actually a bit undersized and the discs are actually 5.5" diameter, but they're made to go together and give you that little safety cushion at the edge. The Rupes 15 comes with a 5" plate suitable for use with our 5" thin foam discs.

Our 6" discs are made for users of tools like the Rupes 21, Flex 3401 and other tools with proprietary 6" backing plates.
