  • Help diagnosing paint problem

Firstly, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to any detailing, so please explain anything like I'm a child. Anyway, I have looked up clear coat failure and oxidation and I have seen posts having people go both ways when seeing a picture posted. So here are the pictures of the worst section of my car: 2007 Honda Civic.

There does not appear to be any visible flaking at all, it seems that is usually a dead giveaway for clear coat failure. Any help on which problem this is and possible remedies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

needs to be painted. If your looking for a temp quick fix to hide some of that grab the M7. The oils in the glaze will darken that area up.

Only fix is a repaint. M7 won't do much. My car has areas of clear coat failure and M7 does nothing.

Sorry BigSG, I agree with everyone else, that looks like your clear coat has given up the ghost. Honda's have a pretty soft clear coat in my experience and this isn't uncommon to see on a 10 year old car. Maybe you can just get the affected areas painted, hoping it's just the top, hood or trunk (or all three).

We would agree with the above responses unfortunately, that the only way to repair properly is to re-paint. Feel free to post further questions.

Had my first accident. Fender bender with some scuff marks, paint transfer and a gouged headlight ($1000 for that).

Question: haven't washed the car since the incident and insurance is paying for the repair. How long should I wait before doing any correction work if needed on the newly repainted panel? Bumper and right front fender are affected.

                Thanks.

Ask the body shop what wait time they recommend. I've heard anything from 30 days to 90 days.

Thanks. I should be able to wash right away though I'm guessing (touchless auto wash).

As long as any wash product doesn't contain wax, you're fine to go ahead.
