  • Question about Prickbort aka Petroleum Distillate in Norway

    Hi everyone,

I hope I am not asking a question that has been answered before here in the forums. We have a product here in Norway called prickbort. It takes most of the asphalt that has been stuck in the paint. It is usually applied before washing the car with car shampoo. The content of this product is mostly petroleum distallate. Would this be safe to use on my car that has been clayed, compound, polished and waxed all with ultimate products? I am worried that it would remove the wax prematurely as it really cleans the car well after wash. btw, I use nxt shampoo for washing

Just doing a real fast Google...it uses the term, "gentle on wax."

But what that term means in the real world, ain't gotta clue. If you do try it, use in on a small area and se how it works out for you.

Re: Question about Prickbort aka Petroleum Distillate in Norway

Looking at the product description (thank you, Google translate!!!) it claims to not only be gentle on waxes and sealants, but there is also a recommendation to reapply a certain carnauba wax every 3-4 washes. That would seem to indicate that it won't totally strip wax with a single application. You're using our Ultimate Wax, which is a 100% synthetic sealant so it's going to be more durable than carnauba waxes. Even so, anything that claims to be a degreaser and has the ability to remove what this claims to be able to remove is going to be stressing any wax or sealant beyond what a "typical" car wash will do. We wouldn't expect you to have any issues using the product, but you may want to wax a bit more often than usual, or at least use something like Ultimate Quik Wax immediately after cleaning with the product.

As for the petroleum distillate content of the product, that's a very broad term. Petroleum distillates range from extremely toxic and harsh substances that will eat through plastics very quickly, all the way down to material so innocent and gentle that it's used in baby oil, lip balms and all sorts of things we come into contact with on a daily basis without need for any sort of precautions.

Thank you for the kind replies! I always apply the ultimate quick wax afterwards. It's just that this product cleans really well.. again thank you so much!
