  • Do I have to be a professional to polish a car with a polisher machine?

Hey guys! I have 2 black cars.

One of them is 1 year old and I just got a new 2016 Black Mercedes.

I want to wax the Mercedes but then in a few months I'd have to polish which would require me to clay off the wax and it's just not worth it so I might as well just do a polish now, right?

So, when I clay first, I'd like to polish. My uncle has a polisher and I don't know if it's dual action, random orbit, blah blah.

However, I am only 18 years old and I do have a Do-it-yourself- mentality but I'm worrying if I will mess up on a new black Benz LOL

Will I be needing any experience or skills on how to use the machine?

You will be ok if it is a DA. One of those slow speed type polishers probably don't do much and the high speed (non DA) can do some damage for sure if you don't know what you are doing. I did my older car first until I got comfortable with it. Maybe you might even have a friend that would let you practice on theirs. Lots of Youtube videos on how to do it. A guy called "Junkman" has some good videos. But lots of videos from here and Autogeek to help out.

I ordered this package and it came with all I needed to get started https://www.detailersdomain.com/coll...isher-base-kit Its been a good unit so far and I have detailed several cars with it and once I got the hang of it, I have felt comfortable with it. I found it was really with the investment. Even though I haven't had to do the whole car with it since the first time as I have kept the swirls down, the wife has picked up some scratches here or there that you just could not have gotten out by hand.

So, see what your uncle has, if your lucky, he may have a DA and your set!

The following below article is a great read which explains more detailed information on the different types of tools that are used on automotive paint:
