  • Ultimate Leather Balm - Another Review

I was supposed to have this done about a week ago, and I've actually had the pics sitting ready to go for this. Just haven't had much time. Looks like Guz beat me to it. I'll see if I can provide some additional insight to the product.

Anyways. On to the product review:

    Packaging:

The product comes with a foam applicator pad.

Ultimate Leather Balm has the consistency of a soft paste wax. It smells like Pina colada, but isn't overpowering.

I cleaned up the leather on this door card with D181 and a MF towel. This didn't give me a chance to test out the cleaning ability of the product, as I like to use a clean surface when reviewing leather conditioner/dressing types of products. This prevents any issues from previous products interfering.

    Before:

    After:

I decided to lay down a bit of tape and do a comparison for the review. Ultimate Leather Balm VS D180. I laid down both products with separate applicators, waited a few minutes, then buffed off any excess product. Here are the results.

D180 clearly has more of a darkening affect. I feel Ultimate Leather Balm has a richer look without the darkening.
Ultimate Leather Balm feels more supple to the touch. Even more so after a couple of days on these door cards that seem to drink up leather conditioner like it is no ones business.

As Guz stated in his review, a little product goes a long way. From the picture below you can tell I barely skimmed the surface after doing two door cards.

    Final thoughts:
Ultimate Leather Balm is a solid product. The fact that this product comes in a small container shouldn't keep you away from it. I am guessing I will get more use out of it than a standard 16oz bottle of a traditional leather conditioner. There was less of a chance to waste product in the application process.
It left my leather feeling soft and supple and didn't have as extreme of a darkening affect as D180, which could go either way depending on preference.
A nice addition to the Ultimate Line. And I am a big fan of the application process. Way less wasted product and less of a mess.

My original plan was to use my CC for this review, but the wonderful Colorado weather had different plans for me. (It went from 60F Saturday morning, to 25F in the afternoon and then snow)
Once this foot of snow melts I will do a follow up with that car. For now it is buried.

Nice review. That's quite a difference in look between the two products.

Thanks. Yeah I was really surprised by how different they looked. More so that the D180 was actually the darker of the two products.

Very nice review, DasBurninator. It's surprising D180 gives a darker result than ULB. I kept looking through your pictures assuming the darker side was the ULB. I may try some once I'm finished with my bottle of GC Rich. Thanks

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Dude, you do great at reviewing some products.

Can we get an update on the protectant/dressings you had done a few weeks ago? Thx.

I'm very curious about Meguiar's Hot Shine Reflect and what makes it so unique. If one of those dressings happens to be Reflect, Id love to read about it. Thanks again for this balm review.

I wouldn't hesitate to try some if I was you. It is a nice product to work with.

I am planning on re-doing that interior dressing show down here soon. That door card is too inconsistent with the texture to use as an accurate review piece. I'll be grabbing an extra yard of material from the upholstery shop here soon to use.

The comparison I was doing was for interior dressing. Though I may grab some Hot Shine Reflect to try out at some point. Generally I'm not a fan of super shinny tires though.

Likewise, I usually prefer that subtle satin look on my tires. It wasn't apparent to me that Reflect is intended to be a super shiny product. All I gathered was that it gave a 'unique' look, but idk. Maybe I'll throw a review up myself if I happen to see a bottle of it.

Re: Ultimate Leather Balm - Another Review

My name is Dan and I'm brand new to the forum. I have been using only Meguiar's on my cars for years now. I just recently purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm obsessively clean about my Jeep and because of this, I have a major problem that I'm desperately looking for input on. I purchased my Jeep out-of-state so when my plates came in, I used a razor and rubbing alcohol to remove the registration sticker from the front window. After I had done this, I was looking at something on my back seat and a drop of sweat from my forehead dripped on the middle backseat cushion. Without thinking, I used the same microfiber rag with the rubbing alcohol on it to wipe up the sweat. When I looked at the rag, there was black on it. My car is immaculate and only a month old so I knew that it wasn't dirt. I immediately freaked. Hours later I went outside to look at the spot and while all of the rest of the interior leather is a matte black, this spot was shiny black. I've been doing hours of research online and it seems that I most likely wiped the protective polyurethane coating from the seat. How screwed am I? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Somehow replace the polyurethane coating? I can't believe I did this. I even looked on the Mopar website and am considering buying a new leather cover for $500 and replacing the one I messed up. Man o man. Will this ULB fix it? Thanks.
