  • area on hood not as smooth when removing wax

hey guys. over the week after washing my vehicle drying and applying uqw i noticed while trying to remove the wax off my hood after letting it dry it didnt feel as sily smooth as it did on other areas of the hood, truck exterior. any ideas what this may be? as wiping it didnt feel like a smooth glide but as if im wiping paint with no gloss. this vehicle was purchased brand new couple months ago. would it be possible if that area has gloss that wear out?

Sounds like there is no more wax or the previous wax has started to deteriorate. Also UQW doesn't need to dry. It's wipe on wipe off.

Also when was the last time it was clayed?

Use a clay kit, then use a polish then a wax or polish wax combo nxt 2.0 etc

Clay first as a minimum. Then polish (optional), then a coat of traditional wax/sealant like UW or NXT.

The UQW would be used routinely afterwards (on a clean car) to maintain your coat of wax.

We would agree that this is likely this due to the paint having some bonded contaminates present or that the vehicle could just use a good coat of one of our paste or liquid waxes.

Even though the car is new, they often have to be transported quite far from the manufacturer to the dealership. During this time and even when the vehicle is at the dealership waiting to be sold, the vehicle can be exposed to all sorts of environmental contaminants like dirt and road grime, which can turn into bonded contaminants, thus making the paint feel rough. A great example of this situation was the new Mazda 3 we worked on at our Oct 3rd Saturday Detailing 101 Class.

Using Ultimate Quik Wax by itself does a great job at providing gloss, protection, and slickness, but it is always going to work even better when it has an existing coat of one of our liquid or paste waxes on the vehicle to work with.

Either way just as other users have stated, the vehicle likely has some bonded contaminants that need to be removed with a clay bar, like Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit. If you would like you can try to apply a liquid or paste wax with out claying, but if the paint stills does not feel completely smooth, then it for sure needs to be clayed.
