  • Black Wax or White Wax?

I'm going to pick up either Black Wax or White Wax today to use on my black 2014 Mustang tomorrow morning. I've decided to try one of these products out as I understand they contain a little polishing oils in them, and I don't feel like doing a full polish and wax on my car. I know most people would just assume that you should use the black wax with the black car, but it's been my understanding that users have gotten good results with the white wax on black cars. So what do those in the know have to say about this? When I go out for lunch today, which one of these should I pick up? Also, I've got the DA Power System at home for Compounding and Polishing; should I consider picking up the waxing pad for this too or should I just apply the Black/White Wax by hand? I know, I know... I need to get myself a proper DA system. I want one! Just having a hard time bringing myself to shell out the money on it.

Here is the car it'll be going on:

The difference between the two is white wax has more cleaning power and black wax has more polishing oils. Both have SMAT abrasives in them. White wax has more. You can always get both. They are not that expensive.

I used white wax on this black ford F150. You can adjust it's correcting ability by the pad one chooses.

Cool! I just learned that if I had actually read the product description, it clearly says what they are better at on the boxes! I picked up the Black Wax since the goal is a nice finish and to clean up some of the micro-marring. One more question though. Using the DA Power System; should I use the polishing pad or the waxing pad? Is there really that much of a difference at that level of tool? Or is that more of something when you step up to a DA system? (I guess that's actually three questions!)
        Thanks!

You can use either of those pads, depending on the condition of the paint and how the paint responds. If you have both we suggest trying them in side by side test spots and pick the one that looks the best to you. The yellow pad will give a bit more cut but you also have a lot of control over that depending on how much pressure you use, how slowly or quickly you move the tool across the paint, how large an area you work, etc.

Is it worth trying the liquid Ultimate Wax over the top of it? Will it give it a deeper shine?

I would say follow up with a spray wax over it.

Can't go wrong the WW, top it with UQW and you have a great combo!

Re: Black Wax or White Wax?

I applied the Black Wax yesterday using my DA Power System and the yellow polishing pad. I have to say, I am really disappointed with the yellow polishing pad. Yesterday was my 2nd time using it and the Velcro backing is already starting to come off.

So after I had waxed the roof and the hood, I decided to take a break and went out back to see how my wife was doing, and while I was out back , the neighbors damn lawn service showed up again and blew a bunch of dust up in the air. I am so fed up with them.

As for the Black Wax; I'm pretty happy with it. I think the car came out okay (a lot better than it was, but not as good as if I had polished it first and then waxed it).

That ***** about the gardeners.. Maybe you can ask your neighbor what kind of schedule they keep? Just make sure to be nice about it so he doesn't think you've got an ax to grind. After all, it's not anyones fault, just bad timing.

So my neighbor's old lawn guy used to see me out on various days of the week doing stuff to the car and let me know he was about to start up on the lawn. He would ask if 5 to 10 minutes was enough to get to a stopping point and get my car back in the garage. Damn, I liked that guy.

The first time with this crew , they see me scrambling and they just go to town. And they knew what they're doing because I've made eye contact as they're getting out of the truck. This time it was just dumb luck. But I still harbor a distaste for those guys! LOL

I always do this every time there are any cars in the vicinity when I'm about to do the lawns. Even old beaters. It's just common courtesy.

I think you need to politely speak to those lawn guys next time, and ask if they could at least give you 5 minutes' warning before starting.
